    Hey all,

Played at the latest and final location test for R with Shou yesterday, here were my observations for Shun.

    New moves:

236K, P, P H/H/M (?) - A string that seems to be viable for use in combos, esp. after 2_3P counter hit. Third hit knocks down even on normal hit.

6P,P or 6P, P+K+G, P M, M - First hit has elbow properties (FINALLY!), second hit seems to be high disadvantage on block (-10 plus) but also high advantage on hit (at least +5). Variation does the drink/fake drink to mid punch like the current 6P+K+G, P.

3, 3 P+G - As previously mentioned from the previous location test, like Shun's normal 3P+G, except he doesn't roll over the opponents back but instead takes a swig while on their back, then throws them down (back-facing, face-down...do you can sidekick stagger if they tech). +1 DP.

    Oushin (lying down stance)

P - Does a punch that hits (mid?), rolls you forward, and into back-turned oushin.

K+G - Does a spinning kickflip that definitely hits mid, sends you to handstand stance, and knocks down on hit.

P+K - Shun jumps up quickly and does a high punch (sabaki?) that floats on normal or counter hit.

    Changed moves

_K, P - Changed to 3KP, yet to find the old sidekick.

Chouwan - Now need 6DP to use at all, and 8 DP to do Chouwan, P

    43P+K - Old 43P

6P+K - Now Shun take a huge swig from his bottle, and DP are added one at a time. At any point, you can hit K to fall down to the ground (much like the current P+K, K), or hit P to lunch at the enemy (much like the current Choukarou (one-legged) P+K, P-> P)

3PPK - Now moves you to oushin.

    Other notes

*Could not get the full circular P (64P) to come out.
*To move into traditional (VF4) stances, it is now [movement] plus P+K+G, not just P+K. Ex. handstand is 8P+K+G, not 8P+K
*The new stance-> sabaki can no longer be cancelled before the mid P (i.e., if it is guarded Shun keeps going regardless of if you hit P or not).

    Update 1 (June 27)

Played a bit more with Shou again, have almost 75 matches in R now.

    New tidbits:

    From Oushin (lying down) stance

You now have THROWS while Shun is lying down.

For front-facing oushin Shun sweeps the legs out from under the opponent for a small damage (20 or so) throw, while for back-facing oushin Shun uses his hand and his head (!) to shove the opponent sideways, at which point you jump to your feet. Was able to land chouwan here quite often but I'm pretty sure that is because people were not side blocking correctly.

Also, if you press 4P+K+G, Shun can roll backwards in oushin. If you are in back-facing oushin, he exits the stance and rolls away backwards like he does if you hit 4 when facing backwards normally (after PK4, etc.).

    Moving to oushin

You can now hit P+K+G at several different areas to enter oushin.

    Examples:

6P+K+G, P+K+G (does not do the lunging punch, but instead lays down)
3PP, P+K+G, moves straight to oushin without doing the K

    Missing;

You can no longer pounce after wall throw.
Can't seem to get the old sidekick (3K) to come out.

    Combos:

You can no longer rely on KKP to be your bread and butter in combos. KKP will not connect after the sabaki, after 2_3P, 4P+K, etc.

I have found 236KPP to be a useful replacement.

One example is on lightweights, Chouwan, _6P, 236KP (stop before second P), 46PP, 43P+K (lots of juggling and timing is hard, but looks awesome and gives good damage). Also, on Taka, you can do Mule kick (8K+G) to 236KPP.

I'll play again tomorrow, more updates coming (vids as well).

I think it's good that they're turning his damage a bit down, but I'm going to miss that 3k.

toning his damage? Did someone say he does less damage?

You're right, I'm assuming that because we can't kkp after just about everthing (like in VF5) that his damage was lowered. It might not be the case.

Juggle heights of launchers seem to have been lowered across the board. The Brad player in the Jean vs Brad vid had difficulty hitting something decent off a jumping knee launcher as well.

That may be true about juggles in general...I don't know. The knee floated low because it was on normal hit, and Jean was ducking though.

Curious if the old Jeff Combo will work, with the juggles changed up.

I'm not convinced about juggle heights being reduced. I'm still betting that Jean is heavier than Akira (and lighter than Wolf).

Read this in the vid's description: "This stage actually has music that doesn't choke on Axl Rose's schlong as well."

In the Shun vs El Blaze vid, it looks like Shun side steps Blaze's DMPK... DMPK should have been linear the whole time. No idea why they made that circular in the first place...

It seems the dreaded DMPK my have gotten a well deserved nerf in VF5R.

From watching the vids and reading posts, it seems like VF5R is going to make a similar leap over VF5 as VF4E did over VF4...that is, a big frikkin' one!

    Two new (ish) characters.
    More new moves.
    Prettier things to look at.
    Better balance.
    WICKED!
