So I picked up the VF5 White Book a few days ago... Here's my take:

The DVD is very dissapointing... There are a few good matches on it, but quite a few not so good ones... The players don't really use OM or side/back crumple combos... The guy they got to play El Blaze didn't really look like he knew what he was doing (missing combos and stuff)...

The combo compilation section of the DVD was also short and dissapointing... Only a few combos were shown for each character... Only one side crumple combo, and no back crumple combos were shown...

There is no frame data in the book... Just command list along with damage and hit level...

In the El Blaze section I read a few flowcharts that I found useful... I think the flowcharts / information written under each character's individual section will prove to be the most valuable information in the book...

it's my understanding that sega requested that no frame information be published in the data books. it's annoying i know because people will find out anyway. but that's what i heard.

The first VF4 mook (red?) also was pretty average looking back on it, and then the second one (blue? can't remember the order) was more detailed (basic frame data and more combos if I remember rightly.) Maybe there'll be a VF5:Black mook coming out in the coming months.

It also sounds like a pity about the DVD, but it's probably thankful that it came out with the book (few hundred yen extra) as opposed to coming out separately (several thousand yen extra.)

I got the book a few days ago also and I pretty much agree with what supergolden has said. It's still a nice book, but lacking frame data (I didn't expect it).

Still worth buying and probably the best source of info for the new characters for now.
