Compared to Tekken 6, SFIV, SC IV... Yeah, VF wins hands down in terms of net play. Still haven't seen better.

I have to disagree with that, even in the best network conditions theres a second or two lag just to walk. In SF4 the best network conditions equal almost offline like play granted theres not nearly as much going on. I've heard that Blaz Blue runs flawlessly online and even the GGPO beta client made by one guy is perfact online.

TBH, no of that matters, what I know is that my VF5 online experience was good but laggy and it took some time to find a match and even longer for one with a decent ping.

I'd the whole can be solved by upgrading the netcode (not a whole lot), but more importantly make 8 or more player lobbies and it would help make the online experience easier and most importantly more social!

Are you on dial up or crappy DSL? I just don't see how you can think VF5 netcode is so bad. Sorry I've played everything online with the exception of Blazblue and while SF4, Tekken 6, etc does play really well under good conditions their netcode doesn't even come close to VF5's and I'm not even trying to be an elitist. I'm just simply speaking the truth.

If you are on dial up homie I think it's time for an upgrade and give the netcode another go.

And yeah the dial up thing is just sarcasm, because honestly the Xbox Live servers you are playing on and the one I have been using for the past 5-6 years seems to be different. Laggy experience overall??? I have no clue what you are talking about.

Even with Sony providing a free to play online experience it doesn't even compare with Xbox Live's $50 dollar a year price tag. I'll gladly play it twice. And no I'm not a fan boy because I've given my PS3 lots of chances. I've played racers, I've tried Home, I've tried Tekken 5, etc. Sorry I like LIVE better regardless of it's price tag. While I'm sure PS3 will be the better gaming system in the long run. It just doesn't stand up to Xbox + LIVE right now in my eyes.

Really I would like to experience this laggy Xbox Live you are talking about.

This is incredibly misinformed. Netcode for fighting games is peer to peer. The netcode for any dual platform fighting game (SFIV, T6, Blazblue for example) is the exact same on both platforms. Any difference is in your head.

The only difference is that XBL users tend to be on wired connections and use wired headsets far more often which leads to better connections. PSN users are far more likely to be using a wireless connection and a bluetooth microphone (both of which can cause extra latency and incredible lag spikes).

If you take the same internet connections, (wired, no microphones) and play a match over XBL and the PSN, the latency and lag should be the EXACT same. There should be no difference whatsoever. You can't say that the PSN is inferior to XBL based on fighting games.

Fighting games are peer to peer. The only thing hosted on the XBL servers are leader boards and win/loss records whereas on the PSN the company who created the game would most likely host those servers (so Namco hosts the T6 ghosts/replays and Capcom hosts the SFIV leaderboards on the the PSN but MS hosts them on XBL for the 360 versions).

When you play someone over XBL in a fighting game you connect directly to the person. The match isn't hosted on an XBL server. Same with the PSN, you connect to the person, no dedicated server is used.

And T5DRO has nothing to do with the PSN versus XBL. T5DRO had terrible netcode yet you attribute that to the PSN being worse than XBL.

Ask anyone who is knowledgeable about netcodes and they'll tell you that peer to peer games are the same across the two consoles as long as the connections are the same. As long as the games are optimized for both platforms (i.e. NOT ST:HDR) then the online experience should be the same.

I have over 1,000 hours of Metal Gear Online 2.0 on the PSN and another 1,000 hours worth of fighting games and I've never had any problems with it.

For fighting games XBL = PSN. I left a pretty length post in the netcode thread in general discussion if you want to read more on FG netcode.
Anyone who says that VF5's netcode isn't incredible is out of his mind. Of all of the games with 3D graphics (T5DRO, T6, SFIV, SC4, VF5:O) it has far and away the best netcode. The VF5:O netcode was so far ahead of its time. It's pretty amazing to think that years later that T6 and SFIV couldn't come close to surpassing its quality for online play.

SF4 netcode is Legit even though it not a true 3-D and DOA 4 is right up there. The DOQA lobby system Kills VF5 and i don't care who hate.VF5 Netcode is pretty cool but its not far ahead of its time DOA 4 is.I think you kinda going over board with it on the VF5 front though.Tekken 6 is pretty decent now with the patch and BlazBlue netcode is incredible. While im not a big fan of the game(BB) i've played some Japanese players like 4 in the morning and the only thing that took a lil while to start up was the syncing. Once the game got under way it was very playable and enjoyable.

Don't worry, you're not the only one. The lobbies were a good idea and they worked well, just the netcode was horrible.

We are all certainly entitled to our own opinions.

Being someone that has played the above mentioned games extensively off and online (with the exception of DOA4) I can honestly say the netcodes are all on par with VF5 aside from the tragedy that is known as T5DRO.

Tekken 6 has a netcode that has been revised and is certainly as good, and sometimes at 5 bars in my opinion may even be a bit better than VF5. I can do anything I do offline in SF4. I don't see what the problem is.

Well the argument was just that dude was saying VF netcode was "bad." It obviously isn't.

I can see how a new player would think it's bad considering how many players constantly say sf4 and t6 have bad netcodes.

In VF there's definitely delay that can be felt by movement easily, but it doesn't really hurt the games infrastructure too much.

Since he's new, I really don't expect him to understand that infrastructure.

That'd be Phillyfanboy, where am I? Not on VF5 online, obviously. Yes, I was waiting for matches at launch. My 360 has been RROD for two years now big surprise . I play the even more outdated PS3 ver. Also if you have to go a games fan website to find a much then there are not that many people playing it online (Brawl).

I agree that SF4 online when 4 bars or 5 bars (rarity) is just like offline play. BB has the best netcode right now and that game it meh.
VF5 ahead of its time? What? Get lobbies and a more stable netcode and then it'll be right with the rest of online games these days.

I'm new? I wouldn't go that far. A lurker maybe.

I dunno. links randomly working or not just 'cause of that 5 frame minimum lag tends to hurt SF4 online.

None of them are perfect, but I think VF tends to be more consistent overall.

Haha, so your 360 got RRoD at the same time VF came out. Makes sense why you considered it to be dead now.

Also no one said they had to come here just to get a match when the game was launched, just that asking for games here made it even easier than it already was.

So you don't have VF5 for the xbox and you dont play online, but still you insist that VF5 online is dead and there is no competition? how do you even know about this? you have been out for 2 years and now come back here and declare the game is dead? what the hell are you talking about PHALLICFANBOY?
