hi, My friend just bought the game & we tried playing it on his HD1080p 60" SRXD projector. but, we tried choosing 1080p & could not choose it till we shut all other res! & after we did choose it, it does not save setting so its annoying to change it every time!

any idea on this issue? does VF5 really support this res? or is it up converting?

    TY

This is a known issue. You must uncheck 720&1080i, after that maybe try to save your system settings, not sure though. I have Sony XBR2 1080p and the game always displays 1080p with all of the boxes checked on. Recently I have noticed the TV cutting out and the PS3 going back to 720p.

Is this issue on the NA version as well?

NA version did not advertise 1080p on the box, just 720. I am pretty sure the PS3 is upconverting, its not native res.

Will this actually run in 1080i natively? The PS3 not scaling stuff to 1080i for those of us without 720p or higher has me concerned because if it ends up coming down to me needing to buy a new HDTV before I buy a PS3, I might end up going for the 360 version instead if it has more features, otherwise.

In other words, I want to know if this is going to end up being an issue of $460 for the 360 and game, $660 for the PS3 and game or $2700+ for a new TV, the PS3 and the game.

I don't understand what you are saying. You either have an HDTV or you not going to see 720p.

I tested out both resolutions real quick @ 720p and 1080p and I could not tell the difference, nothing jumped out at me and said "oh there is a differnce". I did not do a detailed comparison but from what I saw it looked the same. The game is being upscaled when the resolution is 1080, its not native. VF5 was 720p in the arcade, Sega is not going to re-do the resolution on a home console game.

    Some points:

$560 + tax for Ps3 & game, not $660. It's really quite stupid to buy the $600 version of the ps3 unless you desperately need wireless.

VF5 for ps3 will output at 480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p. You don't have to worry if you have a 1080i - only tv.

Yes, it is almost assuredly not being rendered internally at 1920x1080x60fps. Who cares - there's no discernable difference graphically between the ps3 doing the scaling, and the tv doing the scaling. Having a 1080i/p option means you get to avoid the tv's scaler, which is the main point.

Yes, it will prefer 720p if you leave the option checked. I honestly can't see whining about taking 30 seconds to change your video settings if you want to play motorstorm or resistance, which are the only worthwhile 720p only games.

Don't hit quit. Keep hitting X until it asks you to set up your sound. When it does, that means it's set and saved.

Well, I WAS going to buy a 20GB model when I get around to buying a Ps3, but considering I haven't seen a 20GB model since launch and I have a sneaking feeling they might actually stop making it and just drop the 60GB price, who knows.

Thanks for the answer, though. Being a relatively early adopter of HDTV also has its consequences, sometimes. :p

Also also, 720p is electronically a higher resolution than 1080i. The way the frames are drawn, 1080i and 540p are essentially the same, but I'll take 1080i over 480p any day. That's what I have my HTPC set to output and scale everything to because it simply looks better and gives me more area.

In other words, I would prefer to run in 720p or 1080p, but since I can only do 480p and 1080i, my options are relatively limited.
