    Arcade: Playtime
    Location: Sydney, Australia
    Qty: 1
    Ver: B
    Rounds: 3 cpu / 3 versus
    Price: $1 AUD per credit
    Cabinet: Megalo 410

It's almost 4am and I just got home. I've been playing/challenging on VF4 since 3pm in the afternoon, with breaks for food in between.

It's a bloody beautiful cabinet, being the sitdown megalo, crystal clear screen, crisp sound, authentic (Japanese) sticks and buttons, even has a 100Yen picture next to the coin slot. (please, may I take it home?) Having played the test version in LA, I really wasn't expecting to be this impressed again!

My first experience today was challenging against a beginner player. He played Jacky, Akira and Lei all with the same relentless button mashing style. Boy was it scary and at the same time, a nice wake up call. I managed to win every match but boy it far from easy. He commented that Jacky and Lei were really fun for him to play yet Akira wasn't. This is just a testament to the beginner friendliness of these characters.

While I'm on the topic of winning streaks:

STOP PRESS! 6 CONSECUTIVE WINS IN AUSTRALIA! THE FIRST WINNING STREAK IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE! And that was all against the one guy before he had to leave. Imagine there were 30 others there.. wow.. a potential 180 win streak! Once a champion... and all that. heh.

    ANYWAY....

I know you've all heard this before, but the game really is fast paced. Throw counter opportunities rarely exist -- I could count the number of times I successfully threw him on one finger :) -- and trying to keep up with the gain and loss of initiative at that speed is pretty tough at first ... *do I have initiative? yes. no. ouch* VF2ers will definitely be at an advantage here.

I managed to play with Kage, Lau, Akira and Jacky. I just have to say that I love the new Kage. It was so refreshing playing with him, and he feels more manouverable than ever. Lau was pretty lethal but (as someone previously mentioned) just feels like a more refined VF3 Lau. My Akira play was heavily influenced by the 5,291 Akira movies I've watched :) so nothing new to say, though PIT games are fun. Akira always looks intimidating when he's running and ducking around his opponent. I played Jacky only once, to confirm if it was version B, and found him to be pretty cool and I love the auto-parry!. But yeah, definitely had the most fun with Kage. The jumonji stance is too cool. Man, this is beginning to sound like soppy fan-boy rant. My apologies. Hopefully future posts will contain more substance.

A couple of CPU gems: Jeffry doing d+P+K, machine gun knee, several times! Akira doing KG-cancel, throw against my throw! Insane!

Anyway, I'm beat. Ever get that dead feeling in your legs after being on your feet all day? That's how I feel right now :)

Cool! Wish we had a Megalo cabinet around here. Updated the location information at the VF4fx website. Thanks for the info!

Congrats mate! Hmm.. The cabinet is the same as the one in the Casino. Lets just hope that the states release is not too far behind. How did you find the transition from Test to verB? Enjoy going against Dural. Seeing her for the first time in VF4 was a real buzz for me. Happy hunting.

alright adio, long time no see! i finally asked for them to put the difficulty level down in the casino arcade after wasting 2 pounds on akira, who just handed me my ass everytime ( PIT, RBC, SDE DPM etc ) the hepler said he would ask the engineer who was going to be in later on in the evening ( this was on a tuesday ) haven't had a chance to see if they've actually done it yet.

LOL! CPU Akira does PIT-SE-RBC ~ SDE ~ Double Palm? ^_^ Ouch.

You can block the RBC or avoid the SDE, though.

I never wanted the difficulty lowered. It was tough but if I could do it so can anyone else within the competative bunch. It may be expensive but it's the best way to learn.

Madin, I'd love to get my vengence on you but things are pretty tough right now as I've just started collage and I'm job hunting. I don't even think I'll be able to compete in the tournament next week. I'm flat out broke.

This must be killing you Ice.... I'm just amazed that the US wasn't the first port of call for VF4 in the west. You're the biggest market outside of Asia so it makes sense to get the game to you guys ASAP. Patience mate, Patience.

thanks for the info. i did try struggling, but i wasn't pressing block soon enough, he was getting his SE to hit, and i'd get crumple staggered, then he'd DPM. The thing is i'm sure that there must be an even higher difficulty level, because he was only doing 2/3 of his SPOD. also out of about 5 DLC juggles, he only done the full combo once, the other times 2/3 again. watch out for RBC into the wall followed by a half energy combo, oh boy the CPU does not joke on hard now. the worst offenders i've found are: jacky ( if your near the wall and you get major counterd CPU jacky takes up to half energy, he also has vanessa CPU's habit of always N countering your punches, but doing nothing in retaliation ) sarah: uses her new stance A LOT. loves to go into stance and quickley throw you. does simple but effective combo's ie d+p+k,k then d+k,k. Akira: now uses a load of set piece combo's, no longer does a complete DLC against an opponent on the ground. seems to only throw out big attacks when its almost certain to hit. uses the wall in his stage TOO well!. from has early as pai, the computer starts to use K(G). and from about jacky it uses P(G) throw. Computer aoi, although not hard, has a habit of reversing high get up attacks. this is not funny when it happens. the CPU in general no longer attempts to dodge round get up attacks, but they normally try to MC you or attack reverse were possible ( you might get away with it maybe twice or 3 times ). the 3rd character pai attack reversed my get up kick!. The characters i've listed as being quite dangerous all have walled stages, and they use the walls were possible ( ie combo's resulting from wall stun attacks, and the effect where if you hit the wall hard while being floated, you can't QR ( you land face first ) so VF4 nasty OTB combo's are possible.
quick question: which kind of stages do you think you'll prefer, walls or no wall stages? if i'm playing with vanessa, i love to fight on walled stages has it complements her fighting style (the sound of a characters head hitting an unbreakable metal cage after a strong attack.... OH YEAH!!!)
but if i'm playing aoi, i prefer open stages, as aoi's wall game seems weak in comparison to most of the characters, i feel more safe out in the open. opinions welcome!

I'm not sure what the exact conditions are to block the RBC component of the PIT-SE-RBC. If you were holding guard when Akira did the PIT throw, you need to release guard and press it again before RBC. Don't know if there's a very small window in which you can block the RBC, or whether you should just tap the G button and swirl the joystick. I'll try to experiment this weekend to find out the exact blocking circumstances.

I prefer open stages in general (harks back to VF2 days), especially when I play Akira or Kage. Akira has some insane wall combos though, like:

Double palm (wall break) ~ Bodycheck (R.O.)
    SPoD (wall bounce) ~ DJK
Single Palm (wall stagger) ~ SPoD
    b,f+P+G (wall bounce) ~ P ~ Shoulder Ram ~ Fujin

plug this link through babelfish. it's a rudimentary mC list for vf4. it applies only to jacky and sarah, but moves marked as throw/P/elbow counterable should apply to characters who have moves that are of similar speed...

I like walls because of the creativity it invites with the extra time allowed for float combos. One of the fun things in VF3 for me was finding the attacks that caused characters to twist in the air when they got hit like Sarah's tornado kick. If you were parallel to a wall and in the right stance (I forget which now) the hit character would splat face first into the wall and then fall backwards slowly allowing for a float combo.

Quick appreviation question: What is Akira's "PIT"? What's the motion for it?

PIT= Pull in throw (at least that's what I think the name is)

    command is f, b P+G

Just spent the last few hours playing in Playtime sydney - with a pair of busted joysticks.
Seems some people have been getting to excited with the game...
I thought the monitor was *far* from good. Looks blurry and out of focus. Stick were crap of course. Can't wait to see this baby through a 31Khz VGA monitor :)

Does anyone know if this is the Jap or UK version of the game? Did anyone from Playtime say where they got it from?
    Thx

Just spent the last few hours playing in Playtime sydney - with a pair of busted joysticks.

WHAAAAT? A "pair" of busted sticks? On Thursday and Friday, the sticks were fine. More than fine, they were perfect. On Saturday I received a call from a friend who tells me that the P1 stick is busted and they had an out of order sticker over it.

I went on Saturday regardless, and thankfully P2 stick was still in tip-top shape. But to my horror, the P1 stick was dead. It had completely come out of it's bracket, or whatever holds it in place, because you can no longer see the shaft, only the ball of the stick is exposed. You can pick it up and let it drop back down again. Anyway P2 stick was fine when I left on Saturday night, around 10:30pm.

I didn't go on Sunday since I needed a break, although the temptation was there. But to hear that both sticks are busted just breaks my heart.

*sigh* What kind of monkey swings his weight around on a joystick like that.

*cough* like you, perhaps? A little birdie told me that we have you to thank for the demise P2's joystick! I know most of the staff at Playtime, as well as practically every regular VF4 player, just in case you're wondering.

BTW, both sticks have been repaired and are in great shape. We had a huge challenge session tonight and nobody had stick issues.

I thought the monitor was *far* from good. Looks blurry and out of focus. Stick were crap of course. Can't wait to see this baby through a 31Khz VGA monitor :)

It doesn't look blurry nor out of focus to me. Maybe you're leaning in too close to the screen?

Does anyone know if this is the Jap or UK version of the game? Did anyone from Playtime say where they got it from?

I'd assume it came from Japan, but why do you ask? It has already been confirmed as version B, all on screen text is in English, and that's all any of the gamers really care about.

Easy on the sticks in future. k thx.
