I wrote the following to help me train throw escapes. I'll post it here in case it could help anyone else. If there are errors, let me know and if you feel my prioritized throw escape directions need work, let me know that, too.

Nice effort on the FAQ. Just a couple of things though:

In the summary, there is no 'b' throw escape against Akira.

In the summary, you might want to re-think about how you prioritised the throw escape inputs. Going off damage alone can lead to some awkward input patterns that aren't very practical. For example, for Brad you had:

    [3],[4],[6],[1]

but if you know how a typical Brad plays, you'll find that the [4][6][P]+[G] throw is usually used the most because of the setup options. But I can understand that not everybody will have a solid understanding of each character's throws so as a secondary method for priortising TE inputs, you should try to group close commands together and reduce the number of times you go across neutral as possible. So, for Brad, I'd put:

    [6],[3],[4], neutral or [1]

I'd only worry about the [1] if there's a wall threat, otherwise enter the neutral TE.

As a general rule for multiple throw escapes, my advice is to think about sweeping the stick in a HCF or HCB motion while you enter [P]+[G] at the key points. You should probably start your half-circle direction in the direction of the strongest throws (f,df or b,db). And it's totally up to you to start or end with the neutral TE, or even do it at all. I don't recommend you try doing neutral TE in the middle of a TE pattern though.

This would be my TE character summary:

Akira: [6][3][2] (or if you like, do a DP motion with [6][2][3])
Aoi: [6][3][1] (if she's crouching, add [4] somewhere)
Brad: [6][3][4] (if wall threat, add [1] somewhere)
    Goh: [6][3][4]
    Jacky: [6][3][4]
Jeffry: [6][3][2] (if wall, add [1] somewhere)
    Kage: [4][2][3]
    Lau: [6][3][4]
    Lei: [6][3][4]
    Lion: [6][3][4]
    Pai: [6][3][4]
Sarah: [4][1][6] (or [6][4][1] if you prefer)
    Shun: neutral,[3],[4]
    Vanessa: DS [6][2][4], OS [6][3][4]
Wolf: [6][3][4] (if wall threat, add [1] somewhere]

You'll notice that if you just practice the [6][3][4] TE pattern, it will get you far against a lot of characters.

This is getting even more useful and is something I'd like to refer back to from time to time. Are you going to make it a sticky?

I'll mull it over. In the meantime you can add it to your Favorites and it'll always be available under your "My Home".

Thanks for the advice, Myke. I wasn't really going for ease of input so much as I was thinking, "If I am only going to avoid one direction, what should it be?" It wasn't really about multi-throw escapes. And even then, I based my decisions solely on my limited experience. Like I said, the reason for writing the FAQ was to help me get better at throw escapes, period. I'm not the person to ask in that regard. I chose the directions that I thought would avoid the most throws or the most dangerous ones. Your advice shall be taken to heart.

As for Akira's 'b' escape, isn't his new Evo Pull-In throw escaped with back? Or is it not really a throw?

The pull-in throw (which isn't new to Evo btw) is a catch throw and is unescapable. However, you can guard against the followup attacks. The VFDC Akira command list for Evo has this information.

Thanks again, Myke. I didn't realize that throw was a catch throw (and not new /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif) See, it pays to ask. In the evo in-game command listings catch throws aren't listed as being catch throws and that is what I was going by.

No problem, Drift++. Again, good work on the FAQ, it's refreshing to see people taking initiative and think for themselves. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: A Better VF4 Evo Throw Escape List

Hey, just wanted to let people who are interested know that after I looked back over this guide, an update is definitely in order and on its way. Unfortunately, prioritized escape directions has to go (simply b/c I am in no position to give that advice.) Follow Myke's advice if you want to actually win. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: A Better VF4 Evo Throw Escape List

Hi, again. I've had this for a while now, but I've just recently started my own site to put it on. (right-click and save-as) It is an abbreviated one-page columnar version of my Throw Escape Guide designed for Microsoft WordPad. Go into Page Setup and choose Landscape with half-inch margins. Makes for a good hardcopy.

Even after writing the original guide, I still can't remember all 100+ TE directions, so I refer to this page when I have to. Not much, but I hope somebody can use it.
