up P+K - useless?

I've read many times on here that the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif somersault for Kage is a "useless move". I have argued that it can be excellent at beating get-up kickers and certainly has its uses.

I improvised its best use yesterday while playing a few ranking matches. I was against a highly defensive player who backed off constantly waiting for whiffed/guarded moves. Towards the end of the final round (after coming all the way back), I got him down to 'sudden death' energy and I had about 25 points of damage left. The clock was at about 12 seconds and he still wouldn't come close even though he needed to attack me. It wasn't until about 2 seconds to go that he tried to do Pai's running /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to try and catch me off guard with an unblockable. I saw this coming as soon as he ran in and performed the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and the somersault vaulted straight over her dashing kick and she ended up ring outing herself as I jumped to safety.

This was one of the coolest things I have seen happen in the game and is yet another use for what some call a useless move. I always find it useful in time over situations as you are virtually invulnerable from attack for a couple of seconds while airborne. It's also a great embarrassment tool for noobs who are heavily reliant on get-up kicks.

I also used the move successfully against a decent player the same day, who thought the only option after my /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif throw was a rising kick (as I was standing almost inside him while grounded), I anticipated this and jumped straight on top of him with the move.

There can be no argument that the move (or any move in the game for that matter) is useless. Less useful than most moves certainly, but no where near useless.

I landed it on a "good player" twice in a row after he laughed about landing it on me.

    Good times.

Yeah, it must have been pretty embarrassing for him losing that way. I just wish I saved the replay - I save them so irregularly that I must have completely forgot it was an option. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Still sounds like just a "humiliation move", and therefore still useless, albeit fun. I've teleported through Pai's running K with all sorts of stuff, nothing unique about 8P+K. Also, it can just be evaded, or ducked, and it's easy to punish.

Also, you're looking at ~60 frames of recovery on Pai's running K, and ~110 on kage's 8P+K... you probably would have lost had your opponent not ringed themselves out.

Any kick beats this, if I'm not mistaken.

Pai would have not won - the time was running to almost zero and therefore the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif would leave me immune to damage for the remaining milliseconds. Also, ducking it would have probably pushed me out of the ring as she doesn't fly over crouching players. So you're alternatives wouldn't have worked in quite the same way.

And I'll say it again - it's not useless.

Keep using it then. More power to you and that move.

up p+k is not useless. i use it only after the first match when on people like leon who knocks u down and tries to trap u . its still a hard move to get in and if u have enough energy to play around its cool. (agressive fighters only)
