What determines what command you have to press to escape a throw? For certain ones I can just press P I believe it is and escape but when El Blaze does P+G, no luck. I tried to search to no avail.

You have to be really quick and know what direction they are coming from. I think the timing for it is 1/20th of a second.
The best way to learn to do this is to throw out a guaranteed throw move and then enter about 3 to 6 throw escape directions. The other way to learn this is to buy VF4 evo, the quest mode and all different training modes will help you with all the tougher skills.

You escape a throw by pressing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif with the last direction of the throw you want to escape. For example, to escape Akira's :b:/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif you press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. If the throw is just /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, then you just press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif.

This thread and this thread about the VF system should help you with any basic question you may have.

The first thing you should learn to improve your throw escaping is to learn your characters throw-counterable moves. Look at the movelist of you character and make note of the moves that leave you at a -12 disadvantage. When those moves are blocked, it would be wise for you to throw-escape.

Also, be wary of the particular throws your opponent will do to cause the most damage, or leaves you at the most disadvantage. For example, if I'm going up against a Jeffry player, I'm going to try and escape /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif first, then others afterward. This will significantly affect the game of the person who went to throw you. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Vs. the computer, it's much harder to anticipate, since it seems alot more random... but the idea Oioron gave, which is to learn your throw-counterable moves, will help you to learn how to buffer multiple throw escapes. Good luck!

Pressing P to escape a throw isn't really "escaping" a throw. It's something to do with the clash system and isn't reliable unless you learn frames and learn when you can use the clash system.

i believe the maximum number of throws you can escape is 4 at a time, but you'll be hard-pressed to input 3 throw escapes. the window is just that small!!! so, just like wrathx's explanation, if you're playing against a wolf player, the best throws to anticipate are ones with a back and forward last input (giant swing for example). however, the situation changes when wolf's back is against the wall. in this case, you may want to anticipate his back-down P+G (back-down P+G to escape). not only should you be aware of your opponents most damaging throws, but you should also take into consideration your position in the ring. throw escapes should ALSO be inputted while evading. hope this helps...

I thought that if throws are now 12frames (are throws 12 frames?) it would be possible to escape 12 throws using "perfect input" would it be ? Of course i assume that this "perfect input" is only possible for CPU...

Oops, i changed the links now.

In VF4 throws were 8 frames. According to Homestay_Akira (he visited NYC back in the day) 5 can be escaped theoretically. I don't know how the change from 8 to 12 changes that. But 12 throw escape is unnecessary because there are only 5 directions to escape: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif, and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif.

    Oops, you're right =) So that's 6 directions/options to throw escape.

Altec103: Like I posted previously, a good starting point to learning to TE properly is learning your character's moves. Basically you're figuring out when to TE by knowing w/c moves leave at an enough disadvantage to be vulnerable to a throw.

Also, don't concern yourself too much with multiple TE right now. I suggest to concentrate TE the best throw (best damage potential) of your opponent for now. Once you learn the best situations when to TE, then you can move on with multiple TE. I think this approach is similar for learning most techniques in the game imo.

are throw 8 or 12 frames and if you get 8 or 12 disadvantage thus that constitute a zero frame throw?

Throws are 12 frames now in VF5. Zero frame throws occur when, to put is simply, your opponent is stationary.

Here is info that can explain zero frame throw better.

The execution time of the throw has no bearing on how many throws you can escape. The valid timing of a throw escape is regulated by a fixed amount of frames around the time of the throw's "hit frame."

If your opponent does a 0-frame throw escape, you better be doing throw escapes then and there. If your opponent does a normal 12-frame throw, your throw escapes better be around the time of the 12th frame of the throw.

Also, I generally recommend people focus on just one or two throw escapes for awhile. At least until they're very comfortable with that. Best way to tell what your throw escape threshold is, is to do the VF4:Evo Challenge mode activities revolving around multiple throw escapes, since those will tell you what throw escapes you inputted within the frame window for throw escapes.
