Street Fight

Discussion in 'General' started by KillaOfVanilla, Jul 2, 2006.

  1. Which fighting style you think is best used in a streetfight? I only want you to choose one style because if I asked for a combination, most of you would of said :Korean style of karate, judo and jujitsu, kenpo and chinese boxing. So I'm asking for one.
And don't reply with "The best thing to do is to avoid the fight".

I ask this same question to a couple of people and most of them have chosen San Shou and Jeet Kune Do because they are considered "free form".

And Remeber, in streetfights, weapons are used and so kicks to the groin.

Personally, I feel that you have to be a black belt in San Shou becuase black belts know how to take hits and San Shou fighters use kung fu, chinese wrestling, boxing/kickboxing, and Chin Na.

Kung Fu - useful in a street fight since its known as the 'dirty fighting style'. You get to poke people in the eyes and kick them in the nuts.

Boxing/Kickboxing- to me, boxing is about keeping your opponent away from you so he/she would not close enough to knock you out or to grab you in any sort of way

China Na-The basic principle in capturing the enemy is to seize, with either or both hands, a certain joint in the enemy,s limbs in order to have total control not only of a part of his body but also of his entire body

A Master of Tai Chi can win a street fight. On the subject though, I think Boxing is the way to go.

why introduce the elements of weapons and then ask what hand to hand fighting art would be best? all of the hand to hand arts will likely lose at the point of a knife or gun (definately gun but stranger things have happened).

in real fights where knives are used the majority of people who were cut or stabbed were unaware of that fact until the fight was finished. they are small, easy to use and deadly. if you want to match your hand/foot speed and ability to slip against my ability to wildly slash at you with a knife I say you're on the losing end of the deal. My dojo used to teach knife defense techs and one of the most sobering classes is when they take out the red marker and practice "live". No one comes out of that without many, many cuts...most of them probably life threatenting or incapacitating.

I say in a one-on-one, hand to hand fight, luck favours the prepared. Any discipline that focuses on effective stand up fighting techniques that work against fully resistant opponents AND spends equal time on clinch and ground techniques is likely going to better than those that don't. Real fights generally go to the ground (if only because they are clumsy affairs) so if you can't defend yourself from that position or cannot stop yourself from being taken down you're likely finished.

Multiple opponents and weapons? practice your long distance dash because every other option is a gamble with bad odds. Specific techs and strategies, while potentialy viable, in these situations are less than guaranteed and should be avoided.

Alternatively, join a school that teaches knife fighting (clinch distance and throwing) and carry a set. Likely your best bet.

easy, thai boxing but chokes holds and throws are in fact what wins street fights

grabbing a throat and listing them so they are off balanced and making their head bang off a wall or floor and then putting ur weight on their chest with ur knee and carrying on to banf the head of the floor and/or striking them with both hands will mash up any "martial artist"

just as long as you can take any inital hit to get close enough

Rage, you have to remember that the first rule in a street fight is that their are no rules.Just executing four punches isn't enough to help you survive. There can be situations where your opponent may tackle you to the ground or he might kick you in the shin.

As for GE, I'm gonna create a scenerio for you and I want to tell specificcally what you will do:

The setting takes place in an alley. The opponent you are about to fight is a man who is the exact same height as you. He attacks first with a couple of punches, you counter his punches with even fiercer attacks. So , your opponent decides to use "The Barriers Of Personal Protection" : first he will use pepper spray, a knife, blunt object such as kobotan and then he resorts back to his hand to hand combat.

Now, I heard that another sure way to end a street fight is to some how deliver your opponent emotional and mental devastation. How will you get your opponent to feel that?

btw, I changed my mind about the fighting style I chose. I change it to Shinto Ryu. The philosophy of this style allows you to walk away from fights without getting harmed. Its main importance is that it requires an upright relaxed posture with the shuolders back and looking forward which gives the perception of confidence.
As a famous Japanese swordsman (Musashi Miyamoto)said "Perception is strong and sight is weak!"

What bullshit is that. I have seen several street fights where weapons were introduced, i.e. bottles, rocks, pipes, etc., and the fight ended in the other guy either getting hurt and bleeding or running away.

Some times though I have seen both guys grab weapons, but in the end both were too scared to try and fight each other with weapons.

So to make the long story short martial arts, unarmed styles, have no place in street fights; unless you are Ryu then you can of course own all.

Well well. Taekwon-do is pretty nice fighting style, though TKD is more like kicking and punching than throwing... but there are throws & that kind of stuff too.
Yeah... it's not the best possible, maybe, but I prefer TKD. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I say a combination of Satan, Godzilla and David Copperfield is the way to go. Satan rises the temperature drasticly and provokes the opponent whiles Copperfield makes optical illusions that your opponent will kill in his rage, turning exhausted in the process of trying to find the real you. In the end a sneaky Godzilla on his toes will get the back and sink in the choke.

Aikido would probably be best. A good defense is important, especially when it comes to weapons and handling multiple attackers. Excellent running ability is also a must /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif
