im trying to work through lei's command training. im at Sousai Haiken which is a throw which is supposed to follow from Soufu Kanji and i cant get it to work.

Soufu Kanji is the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif which sort of grabs your opponents arms and knocks them back a bit (i assume to set you up for another throw)
and then Sousai Kaiken is supposed to be /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif
but no matter how many times i try this or how quickly after Soufu Kanji i execute Sousai Haiken, i cant get it to work...

    am i missing something here?

also, there is a yellow question mark next to the info box, whats that about?

thanks and sorry for the noobishness

The yellow question mark means you can watch the move, it shows you the inputs too so it might help you with the timing for the button presses.

Edit: press the back button to view it.

Don't wait until you see the first throw. As soon as you input the first one go immediately to the second and third throw inputs. It's an awesome looking throw once you get it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Yeah, it's not two seperate throws, in a sense... it's a multi part through, just input the second part as fast as possible.

And for anyone else... I noticed the command list has no breaks to the two follow up sections, are those really impossible to break? I noticed they all end in forward, so I hadn't been using that throw, but I guess I'll start if it's really guaranteed once the first part hits.

That's correct, the followups cannot be escaped.

What about Jeffry's Head butt throw, that can be escaped and if not then I've done it magically.

Cool, guess that goes on the list of things to eventually learn. Am I right in thinking it's best for use on people good at throw escapes?

That is to say, to my knowledge 33P+G > 66K does 58 damage, to the three-part throws 60, and I'm pretty sure there's some stronger character specific followup to 33P+G in most matchups. So, the three-part seems like a very complex input command without much actual benefit. Is there some combo you can follow it with, or does it guarantee a down attack or something to make it suck less?

Yes, head butt throw can be escaped at all stages, check the command list, it has throw escapes listed for every section. Same with Aoi's three-part. Note that both those multi-section throws are different from Lei's, in that there's two continuation options at each stage, 4/6 for jeff, 8/2 for aoi... and multi-part throws can't be multiple throw escaped, so you've got a 50/50 chance of breaking, Lei would be 100% chance if his was breakable, guess it makes sense that it isn't.

the benefit is that it looks really freaking cool

Think it also sobers by 1. Gotta remember, too, that multiple throw directions = good. Sure, 33P+G is his best throw, but your opponents will start breaking it eventually, and in that case the multi part throw is (I believe) his second most damaging option.

Depends on your definition of "good at throw escapes". Does being good mean they escape the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif direction? If not, then yes, it is a good throw to use. How effective a throw is really depends on how your opponent likes to throw escape (in terms of escape directions they choose). Lei has another decent throw with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif which shares the same escape input, so your mileage may vary.

As others have mentioned, it looks freaking cool and it does sober 1 drink point of Shun. Don't underestimate the "looks freaking cool" property either -- long, inescapable (and cool) looking sequences also inflict some amount of mental damage to your opponent /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif In the right hands, Lei excels at making the opponent feel utterly helpless, so this is just one more tool to aid that cause.

Also, 60pts damage is pretty good for a throw!

Nothing even remotely possible afterwards since Lei goes into some kind of finishing stance animation which you cannot interrupt.

Yeah, my definition of "good at throw escapes" is "forces me to bother using more than one throw direction". At the moment, when I play lei (and I'm not very good with him), I almost exclusively use his 33P+G, though I occasionally throw in 3P+G, or 66P+G, usually for positioning purposes. It's just seemed odd that 1 directional input = 50 damage, and ~8 directional inputs = 60 damage, though I'm not disputing that the 60 damage is his strongest throw. I hardly ever mess up the input, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining.
