The End of Summer 2012 (presented by Seattle VS and Gamebreakerz) is the Pacific Northwest's PREMIERE FALL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT this year with a huge field expected for all games!

This event will feature competition for Fighting Games as well as PC Games and it is huge!

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is expected to have a great showing with players from Northern California, Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, and Idaho pretty much confirmed (and already training for it)!

Do not let the Side-Tournament status at EOS 2012 scare you, Final Showdown will be treated as a major tournament capable of holding 200+ VF players at this event and has a dedicated staff working on it! The only reason VF does not have "Official Tournament" status is that for whatever reason, it does not have the Sega Sponsorship--the other tournaments have official publisher sponsorship at this event. As mentioned above, the VF tournament will be capable of handling over 200 pre-registered players.

National players from outside of the Northwest Region have attended End of Summer in the past, and the same is expected this year! And that includes Virtua Fighter players!

The rules will most likely follow the Evolution 2012 VF5FS Side Tournament rules, but if you have any concerns go ahead and let me know and it will be discussed among the organizers!

But wait, there's more! There are a lot of huge sponsored raffle prizes to be won at EOS 2012. We're talking not just fighting sticks and FGC gear, but also prizes going as high as $800 MSRP including PC gear! scollins (the guy running the event) has gone out on a limb to get tons of sponsorship for the event and has really brought home the bacon for the players to win!

There will also be custom stick art from local artists and other booths at the event to help make EOS 2012 a gamer's paradise!

EOS 2012 is taking in all fighters, no matter where you're from--it's going to be a huge event!

Get ready for this summer's Final Showdown!

About The 2012 Seattle VS End of Summer Event
    Source: http://www.seattleversus.com/archives/1019

    by S. Collins

For the past 7 years I have been hosting an event called the End of Summer Lan at Gamebreakerz. This event was a way to give back to the customers and the communities that have supported us over the years we have been in business. After last year’s event I ventured out into the FGC for the first time and quickly discovered that in order to hold a quality event that Gamebreakerz ould be too small of a venue to hold everyone. So I pooled my resources and talked to all of my vendors and I am proud to announce the event details for the 2012 SeattleVersus End of Summer event. EOS2012 is a major 2 day gaming competition combining both the Fighting Game and PC Game communities in the Seattle area. The event takes place on September 22-23 and will attract game enthusiasts and fans from the Pacific NW and neighboring states. The goal of EOS2012 is to showcase the importance of positive community based events that highlight the local talent and players behind the scenes that may not get a chance to make it out to an out of state tournament. In addition for those of you who have the means and resources to travel, we welcome you, and I hope that you will appreciate our efforts to bring to you a quality event in the comforts of the Emerald City.

EOS2012 will be held in the Seattle Ballroom of the Red Lion Hotel on 5th avenue in the heart of downtown Seattle. Our venue is approximately 8000 sq. ft. in size with an adjacent foyer area to easily accomodate approximately 600 people. Red Lion also has free wi-fi and features the Terrace Garden resturant and pub, Seattle’s largest outdoor dining deck. There will be vendor booths onsite to pickup additional gear, community booths including custom stick art from local artists, and a BYOC area for after-tourney events. For out of town guests the hotel is within walking distance to most of the Seattle area attractions and light rail takes you directly to downtown from Seatac airport.

Part of the proceeds collected from the raffle ticket sales and spectator fees will go directly to our charity Seattle Children’s Hostpital.

    SIDE EVENTS

While we are expecting to run some side events in addition to our main games at EOS2012 there needs to be some clear cut rules on how this is handled. So here is the official policy regarding side tournaments. Paid spectators are allowed to use the BYOC area however ALL tournaments where there is some form of a payout that require a player to actively participate (i.e. physically pick up a stick / keyboard mouse and play) will require that person to pay for the FULL player registration fee. This means that if you have not pre-registered you will be responsible for the full $50 onsite registration fee to sign up. The exception to this is any CPU vs CPU tournaments and or money matches. Remember that the success of EOS2012 and our ability to draw quality sponsors to participate requires the €œActive Participation†, help, and support of the community.

So there's no prize pool for vf, just pot?

So here's my soapbox talk for the moment:

This is the tournament I am most excited for at the moment and a lot of the Northwest players have been training VF for this tournament, actually.

The post-Evo lull has finally run its course and the monthly tournaments this past weekend saw a return to great attendance and growth for games including VF.

End of Summer is the big one for the Northwest and it is being run as a Major-Level Tournament.

The best players in the Northwest are planning to go, including MasaRED. Oregon and Washington scenes are still growing for VF and we are now starting to see a growth in Eastern Oregon and Idaho! British Columbia also has the players and I'm counting on them to make a showing here!

There are also players from beyond the Northwest who are actually planning to come but I don't want to confirm too soon or spoil!

I'm still getting messages from people confirming that they are training hard to bring their best VF to the End of Summer!

This could be one of the events that ensures VF goes to Evo next year and also raises the profile for the Pacific Northwest.

I wanted to fully announce this tournament sooner, but I needed to wait until the time was right and information was more complete. I believe scollins, the guy running the event, has been working out all sponsorship deals he can for the event and there were enough events that had official sponsorship from their publishers that it was probably the best decision to give those tournaments the "official" treatment. I don't want to presume what talks did or did not happen with Sega, because I frankly don't know and I'm not disappointed--scollins has gone on record (at least directly to the Northwest VF players) that he is committed to having Final Showdown be run fully and properly as a tournament and get the space and time it needs.

He's also asked the community to do what it can for this tournament and we are organizing things ahead of time to make this the best event we can give.

There's a lot going into this tournament at all levels of detail and I am excited to present the entire VFDC community with this event as a huge opportunity for North American VF!

If you can find a way to come to Seattle for this event, please do and consider it as something special for North American VF--something that will really help! If you want to come and you need a little help, feel free to express it because something good might come of it!

Let's make the End of Summer something truly special FOR OUR COMMUNITY ^_^

    Cheers!

Chanchai, that soapbox talk was more like sweet talk bro, what's the prize pool for FS? [IMG]

Depends on how many people go--that's pretty much how tournaments work ^_^

That said, if you want your tournament experience and ability to go up--especially towards Evo next year, I can't think of a better place!

Evo was a special case where money was injected into the pot. You're not going to be a rich man going to most tournaments, though you could place high in the tourney and maybe win a small few hundred bucks, win a raffle or two and sell your gear for quite a bit more.

If there's enough people, there might be a pot bonus, but I'm honestly not sure. While that is the plan for the "official" tournaments, I'm not sure that's the plan for the side events.

That said, a good showing at this event will help stimulate the chances that VF will be at Evo (especially since they make that decision around December if I'm not mistaken, they're not going to wait until Spring), and Evo's likely to be your money maker.

That said, I believe you have a really good chance to do well at this tournament, especially if you play a lot of offline in casuals before the tournament or you make it to another tournament too to get better prepared.

But the answer in general to what a prize pool is, is that it's a prize pot, and the pot is determined by how many people come. And you going there might actually entice some more to come out too, believe it or not.

BTW, there are ways to minimize lodging. If you have a budget of how much you can pitch in towards lodging, I'm sure someone can match the remainder or split with another party more to lower the lodging cost for two evenings. On top of that, you get a practice buddy who might even be from another region. We can use this thread and the Northwest VF Group on Facebook to discuss all this and work it out for many players.

I'm also sure that a group effort can be made to do food accommodations that makes it more affordable and keeps players fed--would need someone to be the guy running out to get food or a list of guys who could potentially be that guy. Could even pitch in towars delivered or picked up pizza. If you want a taste of Seattle, Dick's has some cheap burgers and fries that can get you going for most of the day--don't know if there's Church's Chicken around Red Lion though.

I know I'd win (as long as there's no nerves ^_^) and like I said in another thread I'd be happy to share 3rd place to you where you can buy your new baby a stroller or something. [IMG]

However realistically, I'm a poor college student and so it's important for me to know if I can even make my money back going to this trip let alone make profit.

I need to also research how much money total it would cost in the first place going to EOS and back home. So yeah, VF is also a pre-register only event or did I read that wrong?

  9. Chanchai

    Chanchai Well-Known Member

Because you'll win, you should definitely go and I think you'll make a profit then [IMG]

That said... I have created two different discussions on the Northwest VF group (since it's a very active group and people can be a bit more open there about these kinds of things) to help with the following things:

    * Finding someone to split a room with, maybe also train with.

    * Grouping up for cheap meals for everyone that pitches in to make sure people have their lunch and dinner at the tournament setup for them and also on a prepaid smaller budget to help them manage the finances of the trip.

These two things should help reduce the impact on budgets and give players a peace of mind going into and participating in the tournament. The sooner it gets setup, the better.

If anyone reading this wants to at least be represented in the discussion (but doesn't want to touch facebook), send me a Private Message. I should be able to respond within 12 hours, maybe 18 on a bad day, and get you put into the discussion and get this organized.

I want to limit as many barriers is reasonable to getting people to End of Summer 2012!

It looks like it's mandatory to pre-register online for all games in the tournament. That is, there won't be on-site registration.

While scollins could probably squeeze out a few more potential players into the tourney if he allowed on-site registration, he made a conscious decision to not do that so that brackets can be made early and properly and that the event would run much more smoothly and without the drama that late starts and overlapping tournaments sometimes cause.

Personally, I mostly agree with this move because I've seen how far things stretch when there is last-minute registration allowed. I will say it is generally much better, for a tournament of this size, to require advanced registration. A lot of headaches for both players and organizers get solved this way.

I have not seen the deadline, but my guess is the deadline will be September 14th (again, not the official word, just my best guess).

And again, if you register before September 1st, you pretty much save $10 on the registration fee.
