Sarah's throw

Coming from a Tekken background, I'm slowly getting into VF4, but there are a few things that are making the transition slightly rough. One of the things that is getting me at the moment is the concept of advantage after throws. In tekken if you throw someone, it's always the thrower that has the advantage. But in VF4, I'm finding sometimes even if I throw, I still have to work to keep that advantage.

For example, when I do Sarah's standard throw, which is like a Hip toss or something (the P+K throw), the opponent lands right next to me, and seem to be able to sweep me really quickly. I've been hampered by the same thing with Wolf. Is there a good way to counter this and keep the pressure going? Is this the time to use a side/kick, or is there a way to just get out of there and let any rising attacks whiff?

I have read the QR/TR guide, but was hoping for a bit of specific help here. Will reread it though, along with some other Sarah stuff.
    Thanks for the Help.

Different throws will have different recovery times. After some throws, like Sarah's [6][1][P]+[G], you have enough advantage such that a small down attack, [3][K], is guaranteed.

However, you asked about her [P]+[G] (not P+K) throw. She doesn't have enough advantage to perform any guaranteed followup, but you definitely are in an advantage situation. You described your opponent being able to sweep you right away -- are you sure about this? I think you either need to work on your reaction speed to guard the rising attack, or if you're not confident yet, just back dash away so that you're safe and out of range.

You say you come from a Tekken background, so I'm assuming that the whole knockdown/rising game isn't that new for you? If you go through the PS2 Tutorial Training (translation available in Console board), then I recommend you do the tutorial on dealing with rising attacks. And when I say "do the tutorial" I don't just mean do what you can to pass it /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif I really mean spend some time in developing that particular skill. You can change the tutorial settings to help extend the time/requirement to pass enabling you to practice it for much longer.

    Good luck!

Sorry about posting in the wrong place, thought it might be a more general question with a specific example, but I didn't really type it out as such, so I'm not bothered.

I'm sure my reaction speed is down, and I've found the concept of buffering during recovery is something that isn't comng naturally yet, it may well be that I'm waiting for everything to finish, before starting to move. I will mess about a bit more with this and find my fault.

I fully intend to go through that training mode again, at the moment I'm just kind of trying everything until I pass, but I can certainly see benefit from redoing a lot of the lessons. God knows, the amount of option select going on in this game is so new to me, having to guard, throw break and dodge all after a single blocked side-kick. Ahh!! Anyway, I'm sure it's a phase everyone goes through, heading into a big city this weekend, so I might have to practice in an arcade (=get my ass handed to me with a dou itashi mashite).

Thanks for going easy on the newbie, I knew it was P+G but my hands slipped (honest!)

No doubt more questions to come.
