The Correct way to avoid down attacks
In this month's system article, we look at strategies against down attacks. This will look at the right way to roll, and make sure you're not sacrificing uneeded damage.

Knowledge of avoiding down attacks.
For avoiding down attacks, the first thing you want to remember is which way your character avoids attack better.
Firstly for small down attacks, Jeffrey, Lion, Lei and Eileen go to stomach side. For large down attacks, Jacky, Sarah, Wolf and O-Vanessa avoiding better to their stomach side, the other characters to their back. However, there are instances when you will be off axis and you can roll to the opposite side more easily.
However, depending on the down state, the direction to which it is easier to avoid is variable. If you are face up head towards, if you rise on the spot you will avoid most small and large attacks, whereas if you are face down head towards no matter how you get up you will get hit by most small and large down attacks.
Other than that, the timing on when you start to avoid is also an important element. There are some moves where if you start to recover after the attack comes towards you, you won't reallign correctly. Without doing this, it can be difficult to avoid some attacks. It takes relatively few button and lever inputs in this iteration to recover, so if you remember the recovery timing, and for a brief instant after that rapidly input your commands you can escape effectively.
Looking at the chart shown, it shows commonly attempted attacks after throws and the correct way to avoid them, as well as attacks that may be guaranteed if you do avoid them. Read them intently while paying attention to the notes.

Awesome work as always Noodalls!

I'm pretty sure this is not common knowledge for the folks here; Itazan showed me that ground throw attempts can be avoided if Goh connects with his leg sweep move /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif / /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif I believe he said the light down attack was guaranteed.

I'm not sure on the procedure other than you have to roll really fast. I'm very sure one needs faster struggling time if trying to avoid the ground throw attempt after Goh's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif which was made easier in VF5.

Thanks a lot noodalls.
really good info altough with Dojo no record mode this will be hard to try/remember all those rolling directions.
No tips about rolling after Blaze's low drop kick, 9+P+K into down attack ? This sequence is really annoying, I know it's possible to avoid the down attack but it's REALLY hard on verB (didn't test if it changed on verC).

So Lion's 4+P+G into down attack is now escapable, I saw it in the latest vids, and didn't believe it lol.
