I just read about a rumored ps3 price cut of $100 on 1up. This could really change things for sony. If this does take effect after E3 and hopefully a patch for VF5.

Yea but sony planing on cutting the system due to taking things out like ps1 games and ps2 games wont run on the ps3 systems no more so you guys better get the systems now before they start doing the price cuts then you know sony took those features out

So they're taking out the chipsets? Are they going to run the games by emulation?

The european PS3 doesn't have an EE; the backwards compatibility is done through emulation, and is pretty much perfect by all accounts. I wouldn't sweat on it.

I've been playing quite a few PS2 games on my PAL PS3. Most of the problems are minor, display glitches and the like. FFX-2 upscales rather crappy for example so you gotta use a 4:3 display format (which looks rather silly on a 16:9 tv). I've run through the gamut of GG, KoF, SFA:A and have yet to find anything bothersome.

Also, from the moment it was announced that the pal machine would run emulation instead of having the old chips incorporated it was more or less confirmed that the next generation of ntsc consoles would incorporate this as well.

Do you really need more than 60gigs of space unless you have linux or have converted movies to mp4?

Yeah, the emulation bugs me. I have games like Victorius Boxers, 2nd Runner, Okami and plan to pick up Odin Sphere sometime soon. Is there any way to know what SKU #s we should be looking for. I'm sure some will be left over after the price drop.

I just don't want the PS3 BC becoming like the 360's

Also over time some of the components are going to go down in price, a 60 gig hard drive will not cost the same 2 years from now,
256 meg of ram will not cost the same 2 years from now,

So at least conceptually the price for those units should naturally come down and the higher end system (in this case 80gig) will be the same price point.

Either way you cut it, I run Linux on my PS3, in addition to gaming I use it in my research on parallel processing. You can't buy a regular computer with 10+ processors for 599. So its a bargain anyway you look at it.

Considering that there are going to be Blu-Ray games being downloadable on Sony's PS3 online store...that are 25GB in size, then a 60GB drive is only good enough for two large game downloads to be stored on the PS3 drive. To me though I have over 2,000GB worth of external HDDs and if Blu-Ray downloads really start to take off I couldn't imagine how limited people will be with a tiny 60GB HDD on the PS3.

The usb ports, Linux, the compact flash drives, the possibilities are endless.

The Linux-PS3 connection alone, makes Xbox not even a consideration.

But I guess not many VFers know about Linux.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Ahhh... I didn't know of any games yet that fully utilise blue-ray disks, but thats a good point. So I can just swap the 60g with another drive? Or would it be better to get an external drive?

I went in to Wal-Mart today and saw that it was fact, the nice new shiny 60G PS3 for $500. To early of a price drop for the things it has in it. I want Sony to give back my 100 dollars, for being an early supporter of the system. I wouldn't have minded spending as much as I did if the system stayed at its price for a good 2 years (as opposed to about 8 months).

The funny thing about it is that Microsoft has no reason to drop the price of the 360 with heavy hitters coming out for them especially there Halo 3.

I don't mind all the great VF5 matches so I don't feel it's Sega ripping me off but more of less Sony.

im done with the PS3 for now. theres alot of 360 games that are coming out this year and next year. if your a PS3 owner your going to have to wait till deep into 08 before the PS3 has a decent library of games.

there is however lair and unreal tournament 3 for PS3 this year but its only a timed exclusive. the other problem is that FPS's so far have run smoother and look better on the 360. i also dont like the fact that all these PS3 games are being delayed.

which means who really knows how long itll take for the PS3 to have a decent library of games. by that time the 360 might have the advantage. i know alot of people are saying the PS3 just came out but when the 360 first came out it had a good library of games within the first 8 months.

i think the PS3 is a good system but it will be 2 or 3 years till we experience that. its also no myth the PS3 is losing all its exclusives. the worst part of it all is that most if not all games that are on 360 and PS3 are better on 360.

i definently like interacting with the 360 over the PS3. plus i can listen to my own personal soundtrack. i cant believe sony said they werent going to lower the price of the PS3 anytime soon. so what do they do? they lower the price.

ill wait to buy the PS3 again in 2 years or so. alot of people bought the 60 GB PS3 and now sony is discontinuing it. when the PS3 has a decent library of games then ill start believing in it. alot you PS3 owners are still waiting for this.

how long can you just play resistance fall of man and VF5? especially when you know theres a updated version of VF5 coming out for the 360 with online play. dont tell me the diffrences are minimal thats bullshit.

thats all people have been talking about is online play for VF5. that is the 1 topic. will VF5 have online play? well thats going to happen now with the 360 version. not only that the game is suppose to look slightly better and run smoother. offline anyway.

the main reason i sold my PS3 is because theres no reason (other than blueray) for me to have a game console which isnt going to have games on it for 2 to 3 years. the other thing is why do i have a PS3 if the same games are better on the 360?

i dont believe sony when they say the price of the PS3 wont go down. ill just wait till the PS3's are cheaper in 2 years and by then it should have a decent library of games. you also have to realize if the PS3 breaks after a year you have to buy a new one.

so since the PS3 doesnt have a long warranty ill wait for the new and improved PS3's. i dont want my PS3 breaking down in a year and a half and have to buy a new one. remember the disc error read that started appearing in PS2's after 2 to 3 years. the PS3 is too expensive to take a risk on ill just wait 2 years.

When did it lose most of its exclusives? GTAIV and RE5 I'll give you, even though I'm not 100% sure RE5 was ever supposed to be exclusive. Metal Gear solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Heavenly Sword...the 360 isn't getting any of those, so why count the PS3 out so early? And as for the games looking better, it kind of makes sense, since developers have had more time to get accustomed to the 360. I don't doubt that it will be 2-3 until the PS3 has a vast amount of great titles, but I think you could argue that for any system. Imho, the PS2, as fantastic as it was, easily produced its best games in the past year and a half.
