We've got Kage, we've got Goh, we've got Brad... so, being the stupid fangirl that I am, I just can't let this forum go without a Vanessa gameplay discussion thread. The best way to start this off, I think, would be a translation of information regarding her new skills. The majority of this info comes from http://www.geocities.jp/lettuce1781/locationtestinfo/vanessa.htm , however, I might add in some commentary from experimentation I did while at E3. I'll also note movies and times during the clips when you can see certain techniques.

For starters, what's look at what's changed most: Vane's OS skill set.

    Offensive Style : New techniques
OS seems to be where the bulk of the changes lie, which makes me happy. I've always championed the cause of using both styles skillfully in battle, and ever since VF4FT, AM2's been giving Vanessa players more and more reason to use OS just as frequently as DS.

For starters, the base OS [P]-string combo has changed. Here are the variations:

    [P][P][P] High punch end.
[P][P][P][P] High punch end, possibly semi-circular?
    [P][P][P][K] Mid kick end.
[P][P][P]+[K]+[G] I assume this is a swap back to DS.

    [P][K] Appears to be a mid-level knee.
    [P][K][P] High punch.

[4][1][2][3][6]+[P] If anyone here has played Fighting Vipers 2, this is almost EXACTLY the same as Jane's Tornado Punch: same command, similar look, VERY similar timing/hit properties (though it won't send the other guy flying across the room in this one). This is one I tried out several times during E3, and being the huge FV fan that I am, I was quite happy with it. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif It travels straight, breaks guard, downs on hit....
[4][1][2][3][6]+[P](hold) And just like FV2, there's a charged variation on this move. I sadly forgot all about this, so I didn't check it out. Going by the trend, it might be a guard-crusher. (vf5_location_test12LI_VA.wmv, 1:23, is also attempted earlier in the clip but is countered)
[4][1][2][3][6]+[P] then [2] during charge/execution And completing the trifecta, there's a FV2-style low variation on the skill.

[9]+[P] Assumed to be a high punch. Can start a float combo. (tokkova_lion, 0:47)

    [3]+[K][P] High punch, back knuckle.
    [3]+[K][P][P] Mid punch, body blow.
[3]+[K][P][P] [P]+[K]+[G] As before, I assume this is a swap to DS.
    [3]+[K][P][K] High kick.
[3]+[K][P][K][P]+[K]+[G] Again, likely a switch to DS.

    [4]+[K] Middle Kick.
[4]+[K][6] executed in the middle of the kick animation. This cancels the attack and makes Vanessa do a forward roll. She switches to DS afterwards.
[4]+[K][6][P] during animation: Vane delivers a high punch after the roll. This is a combo starter.
[4]+[K][6][K] during animation: This is a knee.
    [4]+[K][6][P]+[K]"" Same animation as [9]+[P].
[4]+[K][6][P]+[G]"" Throw. Not sure if it's her standard P+G or a special variation.

    [6][6]+[K] Straight knee attack.
[6][6]+[K][P] Straight knee followed by a high punch. Apparently it only hits on counter (?)
[6][6]+[K][8]+ or [2]+[K] This is similar to her [K][8]+ or [2]+[K] string in DS.

[9]+[K] Strong knee, floats on normal hit! God I've wanted this for so long! Looks like OS is the way to go for float combos. However, it looks to come out slower than the standard knee. (up0004, 1:58)

    [1]+[P]+[K] High semicircular attack.
    [1]+[P]+[K][P] Mid punch followup.
[1]+[P]+[K][P][P]+[K]+[G] Mid knee, switches to DS.
    [1]+[P]+[K][P] High knee followup.
    [1]+[P]+[K][P][P]+[K]+[G] Another switch to DS?

    [4]+[P]+[K] Mid punch.
[4]+[P]+[K][P] Mid punch followup, downs on normal hit.

[6]+[K]+[G] No notes for this one...

[P] during Offensive Move: This is similar to OS [6][6]+[P].
[K] during Offensive Move: This is similar to OS [2_][K].

[6][4]+[P]+[G] New throw. Somebody make a movie with this, DAMMIT. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'll leave it at this for now, I'll do the new DS stuff and the changes to existing skills tomorrow because holy jeez I am really freaking tired right now and I should go to bed D: Once all this stuff is done (and hopefully when we get a bit more clarification on the technique properties) I'll be putting it up on my site, which I really need to update even though I've been stupid busy lately. Argh.

So, I've got this started. Let's discuss!

    Some additional OS info.

[6_][K] gives head collapse on any counterhit again
[3][P] seems to be the 16 frame MP variant from FT and not the 10 frame punch.

Yahooo!! This means my OS Vanessa will be useful again.

Zero thanks for doing this thread. Would LOVE to see others start doing the same for other characters. Hint hint. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, where were we? Oh yes! DS stuff!

    DEFENSIVE STYLE
[6]+[P]+[K] Mid punch, possibly elbow class.
    [4][2]+[P]+[G] New throw. The page mentions something about a knockdown? Again, if there was a movie showing this we could probably get a better look at its properties. The lack of recent Vanessa footage makes me so sad. ;_;
[P] during Offensive Move: mid-level punch.
[K] during Offensive Move: no notes for this.

Pretty slim pickings here for new abilities, it seems.

    EXISTING TECHNIQUE CHANGES
or How I Learned to (sort of) Love [6_]+[K] Again

All low throws: No longer catch throws. Weep.
No guard automatic [P] catch in DS: Apparently this is more like Jacky's [P] inashi now? What Vane's able to do afterwards is as of yet unknown.
Front Sleeper Hold (chained into from certain moves) only deals damage once.
DS [9]+[K] No longer knocks down on normal hit.

OS [P][K] The version from FT is gone, and replaced with the string starter described in my pervious post.
OS [3]+[P] As noted before, apparently this is the FT B-style variant.
OS [1]+[K] Can only be executed from crouch?
OS [6_]+[K] Head crumple is back! /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I never understood why this got nerfed in FT... unfortunately, it has lost its cancel properties in the process, meaning Vanessa no longer has any [K] cancels. Oh well, you can't win 'em all /versus/images/graemlins/indifferent.gif
OS [6][6]+[K] The command for this is now [4][6]+[K].
360 Leg Breaker throw: The command has changed to [4][1][2][3][6]+[P]+[G]. No wonder I couldn't get it to work at E3. I wonder if the simplified command has altered its damage properties?

There's a whole bunch of other info at the VA-NET BBS (http://www.tv-jp.net/va/k/index.cgi), which I'll try to get around to writing up when I have more free time on my hands. Of course, if anyone else wants to try doing some of it in the meantime, be my guest. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

DS [6][P]+[K] apparently "avoids" (sabakis?) mid punches and elbows, as well as causing stomach crumple on normal hit. With those properties I'd wager the move is quite slow...but nice to see DS Vanessa having something to possibly punish blocked sweeps with outside of low throws.

[/ QUOTE ]Hmm. Does this mean it now gives guaranteed, non struggable (or at least very difficult), damage? If so, it should definitely boost Vans nitaku game in DS, especially if it still can be chained from [6][K]and the move is still 15 frames.

A few new moves in motion in 2006-6-8_18_38_LION_vs_VANESSA.wmv at the hk-vf page.

    0:17 OS [3][K][P][P]?

    0:43 DS [6][P]+[K] ?

    0:55 OS [4][1][2][3][6][P] then [2]

    1:18 OS [4][K][6][P]+[K]

    1:28 OS [6][6][K][P]

    1:37 OS [6][6][K][8] or [2][K]

Well, there's some new Vane clips up...

No usage of new moves though...

I wonder if she's been upgraded to a middleweight, seeing as she's taller than Goh, or was she always a mid weight? Judging from his combo in that same clip I don't think so though. (It would be a fair move though.)

i think shes always been a midweight, i noticed shes friggin huge in VF5, alot bigger then she was in previous games.

Shes is lightweight in VF4, about the same weight as Sarah. And for some reason a lot of special combos work on her, like Akira MC closed stance [6][6][P], [2][P], [2_][4][6][P], and Kage MC open stance [2_][3][P], [P], [2][P]+[K], [6][2][3][P]+[K]

well they should upgrade her to middle, shes a bloody amazon in the new game, have to agree she looks odd sometimes, probably because shes so lanky, her thighs are as tall as pai. ill miss [3]+[P],[P] in OF but not a huge change, least she gets more launchers from that stance

Well, cat's out of the bag, you can strip the babe down to her undies ^_^
    [IMG]
Yep, we definately got a winner here.
(The jiggle mechanics are getting a tad DOA-ish though.)
    That's from: up0100.wmv
    get it here

We also got the [6]+[P],[K],[P] from DS string (or whatever the input of the last one is) in this movie:
    2006-6-4_12_11_EILEEN_vs_VANESSA.wmv
    get it there
And I do hope that last hit is semi-circular (it almost must be since its dependant on footposition which way you'll spin rite?)

They also seem to have increased the speed of her jab from DS, or was that one already straightened out in FT? (I always thought it was weird she had such a slow jab from DS.)

This isn't really new, it's been around since FT. The last command is [P]+[K]+[G] and it switches to DS. It is semicircular (one needs to escape to Vane's front to avoid it).
