Because these are ign insider material, you have to have a credit card and join. However they are currently offering a seven day free trial, so if you have a CC you can grab them straight away and then canc... errr, run out the rest of your trial and evaluate whether or not you want to keep the account.

Obviously I can't give any direct links, go to ign.insider.com and you'll see the evo article at the top.

The players in this tournament were major, there are clips of segaru and mukky and akumapai. Akumapai beat mukky (!) to take it all.
I can see now why people might throw around "pai's top tier in evo" with a straight face.

    Correct URL

    Correct URL is insider.ign.com

I think this has been discussed before, but how can IGN get away with charging people for content that isn't theirs?

Just seems to go against the grain of the VF community where everyone is providing media for free, and along they come asking to be paid for it. It doesn't really bother me as much that they do it for other stuff, especially movies they create themselves, but for public events such as this VF tournament.... .. .. .. .

    Re: Correct URL

worst thing is..they split the matches into two 'movies'...
prolly so they can claim 'we got lotsa clips' !

    So cheap skate.

    Boo.

Maybe we can inform Sega abt them doing such a unethical thing?

    Re: Correct URL

I don't in theory disagree with charging money for content, but if ign got to cam this, you KNOW others did as well, and am2's page will probably put up selected matches for free.

I don't think anyone wants to pay for nine cammed vf matches, even good ones. Direct feed with a nicer format mmmaybe I'll pay for, but cammed .mov format split into 2 or 3 parts (which makes watching matches an intense pain in the ass and is almost certainly an attempt to artificially inflate the number of movies they can claim)?

This belongs in the freebie section. They did not promote the tournament, pay for any part of it, enter it, and probably didn't pay a fee to get into the building and watch (there are zillions of people in there).

Beyond that the matches were quite nice, but ign should be aware by now that hundreds of nice evo matches are churned out weekly from a half dozen japanese sites. None of them ask for money.

Probably not legally. I encourage anyone who wants these movies but doesn't have a credit card to come to irc (to discuss it naturally).

    Re: Correct URL

Did I mention this other really annoying crap?

    1. The final match does indeed have a random skip at the opening, we'll never know where that 40 percent energy went. Of all the harebrained times to drop the soap (err, camcorder) WHY did it have to be on the final match?!

    2. There's a link that says "more media and pictures" at the bottom of the page. I'm pretty sure it's BS and won't lead to anything useful, but in fact it leads to a page that has "Virtua fighter 4 evolution heroism tournament media" in the title bar, and the little fake path displayer shows:
insider --> media --> virtua fighter 4 evolution heroism tournament

So I download one of the first movies and it's actual evo play. From the tournament or not, who can say, but it was pretty good. I think "Wow maybe my account was worth paying for after all!"
... then I figured out that only a couple of these movies were evolution, it's unlikely they're from the tournament, and the other zillion clips are ALL VF4 for the PS2, or in some cases VF4C? Featuring IGN-quality gameplay. X(

IGN! Don't attempt to BS your paying customers for christ's sake.
Evolution Heroism Tournament does not equal
Evolution matches in general which !=
    Arcade Virtua Fighter 4 C ... which !=
    PS2 VF4C.

I don't know if this is an organization fuckup or if they think they're being helpful by linking to 'related' material (in which case change the header of that page to something accurate, such as "related VF4 footage") or if they just figure people don't know the difference and don't care, so they'll try to give the appearance of having dozens of tournament clips.
