I look at this project with slight amusement.

I would propably buy it. I dont really care, these days Im more open minded than in the past. I just hope that they dont stop making real Virtua fighters for consoles..

Would be funny if the characters would have dashes and sidestep inputs according to which game they come from. I wonder what button system would be used. Or throw escapes. So many differences that are very important to the common player.

    Akira vs Kazuya.
    Lau vs Heihachi.
    Jin vs Jean.
    Wolf vs. King.
    Sarah vs Nina.
    etc.

I admit theres a certain amount of clash potential there /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I would buy it for sure. I believe they would put Tekken's throw escape system since it's more noob-friendly. VF's OM and DM should be thrown in as well.

Or they could make it like Capcom and SNK. One game is developed by one company (CvS series, by Capcom) and another game is developed by the other (SvC Chaos, by SNK). Each one borrowing more elements from their respective "father". Pleasing both sides of the fence.

Maybe I should hope for this, since a combination of the two series could have the things I liked about the two series (without offending anyone).

From Tekken: Left/Right Punch and Kick buttons (with the guard button from Virtua Fighter), more ground vulnerability and a lack of left and right stance switching./forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

    From Virtua Fighter: Everything else!/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

EDIT: Please leave animals, robots and weapons out. Either no hitsparks, or an option to turn them off.

i'm guessing they'd end up going with VF's three button layout, tekken's throw and evade mechanics, and a wierd combo system that can't really be defined by either game.

i just hope this is a collaborative effort between namco and am2 or else this is just going to be tekken with vf characters.

It probably would work like other Namco mixes. They had HEIACHI from Tekken in Soul Calibur 2 or 3 and they used Heihachi's character and some of his classical moves but done totally within
    Soul Calibur's mechanics.

They did the same thing with Urban Reign, It had Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law from Tekken. They did some of their signature moves from Tekken, but the mechanics were strickly Urban Reign.

If Namco does Tekken vs VF, The VF characters will have their looks and some classicial VF moves but the mechanics would be
    Tekken mechanics.

Now if Sega did VF vs Tekken it would be the other way around. Tekken characters with classic tekken moves but with VF fighting mechanics.

I think one of the reasons(among other things) that Urban Reign didn't take off for Namco was that it was a whole new fighting system. Soul Calibur/Heihachi works because they kept Soul Calibur fighting mechanics.

If Namco did produce such a game it would most likely be Tekken
with a larger roster that included VF characters.

I'd much rather have Sega/AM2 add a few(maybe 10) Tekken Characters to the VF roster:

Law, LeWulong, Feng Wei, Baek, Wang Jinrei,
Jin Kazuma, Eddie Gordo, Julia Chang,Craig Marduk,
    Asuka Kazama.

let'em keep their core movelist but under VF mechanics.

I'd buy it for the concept alone. I can't say if I think it would be good or bad, because theres just no way to even guess what systems would be in place. But the mere idea is enough to make me drop $60.

One thing that I have always hated in Tekken, is its movement. 'Maybe I evade or maybe I don't. Press joystick and find out'.
It would be a huge factor to me whether they implement VF's 'digital' evade or Tekkens 'analog' one.

Actually theres a lot of huge factors. The game systems are from pretty different universes.

I remember Jeneric saying that if a game like this was ever made then it should feature it's own mechanics and gameplay system.

I agree with that, if it picks and chooses between the two games mechanics, then it either won't work or people will just complain like crazy.

Yeah I pretty much agree with that statement too. If Namco and Sega really crack their heads together they could really do something special.. There is far too much talent for it to go to waste..

As long as they don't care who they upset then they should be fine.

It almost seems like there would be no way to do it that wouldn't offend either
A: one of the games core audience (as in we pick one system go with it, 1 set of fans loves it, one hates it)

B: Both. As in, we either compromise or come up with a completely new system, in either case, both groups hate it.

If i was tekken i wouldn't touch this with a 10ft pole. We have an inferior game with better sales, I KNOW, lets turn our fanbase onto a better game that doesn't get as much hype. Maybe sega can set back and let us successfully market one of there games for once, maybe the can see how we do it and become a bigger/better competitor.

This is the real life equivalent of: you meet a girl, you are dating but not exclusive, so you decide hey, i'll introduce her to my sorta friend who is better looking than me, funnier, more outgoing, and just happens to make more money than me, OH and he's single.
new girl i am digging, here is my handsome, single, doctor friend who i kinda know but don't know so well that he'd have any sort of moral conflict in taking you from me.

Yeah, it would be hard as hell to figure out a game system that wouldnt offend both camps.

For instance, watching finnish tekkenists post stuff about their gatherings, there are guys who hate getting thrown. Yet we have throws as extremely important in VF. We have complex multi-throw-escape system in VF and 0frame throws where as throws are not nearly as important in tekken with only 3 throw escape commands at all. I wouldn't choose tekkens system even if I was paid to.

Theres okizeme which is totally different in either game.

Of course theres the issue about block button. Again a feature in VF that I very much like, due to its ability not only to block instantly (compared to like walking forward and throwing stick back in order to block), but to cancel things, buffer inputs while blocking and clear input buffer and generally give more control over your inputs. Although its a possibility to allow both, like in DOA where you can block with both button AND holding stick back.

And so on and so on. Only thing thats relatively similar are air combos and tekkens wallgame which is very similar to wallgame in VF5R. (I think R pulled it from tekken anyway)

Sigh. I wouldnt mind tekken characters with VF system but I dont think its going to happen. VF characters in tekken system I wouldnt play.

You sound biased and or ignorant.

Question, have you ever played any other fighting game as far as you have with VF?

Throws are important in Tekken, but they work differently. For starters, ever since I decided to understand it a lil more, there are throws that have a different escape, contrary to what the actual break looks like. Also, when some throws are escaped, some of them give the person that got escaped, the advantage so you use that throw with the intention of having it broke. There are also uses for throws in positioning, for example Nina has a throw that she switches sides with the opponent, but when the throw is escaped, she still switches sides, you'd go for that to get off the wall.

    --------

I don't know, but this also looks to me is that once again a company can bail Sega out, just like Nintendo had the ability to do with Mario and Sonic, and Sonic on Nintendo consoles. VF characters teaming up with Tekken characters in a game, would help VF exposure more than it would Tekken by far, especially in the U.S.

What games were better, Sonic or Mario? That shit was preference.

Capcom vs SNK, that helped exposure to KOF games cause nobody even gave a shit(neo geo had cost too much and no machines and bad console ports) before that and only knew what Fatal Fury was.

The whole point I'm trying to make, is that it's all just preference.

This will be a challenge for ol namco and sega, maybe they should make their software compatible for online battles only. that would be funny

Manji, that is such a good way to put it! It's the fact that VFs evade is 'digital' that makes it so much better!

The block button and it's MANY uses in VF is awesome. Cannot get rid of the block button! Adds so much more control!

I would not mind at all. I would prefer each company making there own version of the game though. A Tekken version and a VF version. Hopefully the Vf version would come out first.

Just imagine the cool nickname it'd have! TvV or VvT it just sounds so awesome. Personally I'd love to see this, I like Tekken and love me some VF. To even out the numbers I think VF would have to bring in some Last Bronx, Fighting Viper and Eternal Champion characters.

    Hi all,

I am a very abrasive person. I disagree with everything everyone says, and then offer up (at best) a tangent arguement and pretend like it supports my points, while simaltaneously pretending like i am smarter than everyone else. Sarah is much weaker and has far fewer choices than your character of choice. Excuse me, i have to go muck up other threads and point out the obvious flaws and fallacy's of other people's opinions. why do people keep thinking they are allowed their own opinion, i'll never know?
Oh, and oddly enough after condescending your opinion i'm prone to turn around and implicitly reiterate it.

Its only fair to mention i don't believe in sarcasm or humor on internet forums. because: The internet, its serious business.

    Editorial note:
this post is in no way directed at any member of vfdc, but rather is a social commentary meant to illuminate the inner workings and machinations of internet know-it-alls. who for the sake of this fictitious scenario happen to play vf5 and happen to use sarah, who happens to have much weaker options and far fewer choices than would the characters his fictitious opponents would happen to choose.

2nd Edit: If namco did this, i'd probably buy it. (now the topic has been mentioned).
