The article is here, but only in Japanese: http://sankei.jp.msn.com/entertainments/game/100114/gam1001140500000-n1.htm

I am planning on translating this and putting it on my site Versuscity, but I was wondering if any other Japanese speakers would like to help me out? My time is limited due to work, so I don't even know if I can push this out within a day or two. I was hoping for maybe one or two other people to help out, since it's a 3 page article with only two questions per page. Please reply if you are interested in helping. [IMG]

P.S. No Babelfish or Google translate. :p

Aw, come on. That ruins the fun!

    From Google Translate, I got:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Sega sponsored the event that the game live on its network, the site is mainly sponsored by the arcades of the city "competition grass" to relay.</div></div>

I'd imagine that this "competition grass" is the street name for something he smokes, that allows him to play better.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">From the experience stronger and stuffed friends with the regulars went to arcades, "I would like to know the joy of making friends in the arcade game" and the site launched.</div></div>

Here he's saying that he didn't have any friends growing up, just stuffed animals that he pretended could talk back to him. So he went to the arcades to make friends.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">High enough to fit into the national tournament himself "Virtua Fighter junkie". "The foreign and local players, with each other to see the video player leading&#12302; Mochibe (motivation) &#12303;rose Wow nice comments and most of us" squint your eyes.</div></div>

Alright, now he's talking about being "high enough" and being a "junkie." He's obviously talking about this "competition grass" he's been smoking. Having a friendless childhood could lead to this.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">"At first we did not win enough, always through the arcade's favorite, in a game that is repeated many times, but that's standing in the arcade,&#12302; the guy (in game) motion sick transformed from &#12302;He is a talented&#12303; &#12302;I have to admit there are changed into&#12303;. And a fellow comes in with its arcade, being taught the concept of dramatic win in Virtua Fighter strongly tame."</div></div>

This motion sickness is probably a side effect of the drug.

And here I thought that this guy was a role model. [IMG]

Please help Tatsuki, it was a bad joke on Tengu's part and you should not let it make you change your mind. If you want to help then please help. I will greatly appreciate it.

Please don't lose courage in yourself to help just because of something someone else says.

    thanks

Okay, actually I may have enough time to do the whole thing this weekend, but since you are native Japanese, it would help a lot if you could double check what I wrote. If you could do that I'd really appreciate it!

I think Kamaage is Japanese, or perhaps he's mixed. Jide told me that he went to Australia for a couple of years to study though.

He also doesn't need unnecessary ribbing after he offered his services, you oblivious dumbfuck.

    I think you're missing the point, Colorful_Tengu.

Everyone saw that you were "joking", and perhaps even Fu_unji understood that too, being a non-native English speaker, but...

Even as a "joke", it was in poor taste, and (IMHO) not that funny. To take an (extreme) analogy:

A physically-challenged person decides to respond to an open invitation to compete in a charity sports event. This person does so knowing that while they're not in contention of winning the event, or even posing a serious threat, wishes purely to take part and be involved in something they, and others, enjoy and all for a good cause.

Would it be appropriate or even "funny" if someone replied to the above person with something like, "if you decide to take part, then somebody better be pushing you along so that you don't slow us down! (btw. I'm just kidding, no offence)."

Glad we could talk earlier kamaage. I forgot that you were a member here. Had I remembered, I wouldn't have posted what I did in order to avoid any confusion. And thanks for the info earlier! [IMG]

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Kamaage is the site maintainer of Super Virtua Dojo, a community site for the popular arcade fighter, "Virtua Fighter 5R". Having achieved over 3.6 million page views in under 3 years, Super Virtua Dojo allows users to write about their battles as well as view and upload videos.

While Sega broadcasts their official tournaments on the internet, Super Virtua Dojo teams up with local arcades to broadcast "grassroot" tournaments. Kamaage's experiences of being a frequent arcade goer, befriending other players and becoming a stronger player has led to the creation of Super Virtua Dojo, which he hopes will help people learn of the joy of playing against other players and making friends at the same time.

Kamaage is also a high level player, deemed a "Virtua Junkie", and stated "I was really happy when foreign players and local players left comments like 'My motivation has really gone up!' when they watched videos of high level players going at it."

Using only his experience as president of an accounting software development firm, Kamaage stated that the main site took about half a year to create from scratch. Afterwards, discussions with top players on his site and the new content at the arcades filled him with the desire to keep pushing forward.

Q: Why did you decide to create your own site rather than using the community's site?
A: I was thinking about creating something on the community site Mixi, but I wanted something exclusively for Virtua Fighter players, and a place that a lot of players could gather. Other than that, I was kind of new to the world of creating an online community, so I also wanted to learn how to do that.

Q: What's the reasoning behind implementing live streaming into Super Virtua Dojo?
A: I really wanted local and foreign players who couldn't come to tournaments to be able to watch us. Reading comments like "WOW, I really need to play this!" online made me super, super happy. Oh yeah, and I guess as a player myself, I wanted to show off my awesome play, haha.

Q: How did you get good at Virtua Fighter?
A: At the beginning I really couldn't win, but I kept going to my favorite arcade, and from all of the matches that I played, my feelings changed from "Oh my god this is pissing me off" to "This guy is good" and "I have to admit that he is stronger than me". I also made many friends at the arcade, who taught me the thinking necessary to win at Virtua Fighter, and from there I got pretty strong quickly.

Q: Why did you think of broadcasting tournaments when Sega already does this?
A: Unlike the previous iterations of Virtua Fighter, I don't feel like Sega is doing a good enough job with their game, in fact, they're not even attempting to motivate players to play their game at all. I felt that after I realized the importance of having teammates in the arcade, I really felt that to show how great it is to have friends in the arcade, and to bolster the arcade scene and VF, Sega needs to broadcast those local tournaments that they usually don't get involved with.

Q: What are you planning to do from here on out?
A: I want to get together with some arcades and start some sort of video delivery program, so that we can do live streaming straight from the arcades. I also want to get a lot of high level players together to get something published, so that regular players can learn and become more aware of what they do.

Q: What has made Virtua Fighter so popular up until now?
A: Well, it was players appearing on TV, and it's also a game with a "history" of becoming a social phenomenom. It's also a 3D game, so there's a lot that can be done with it, so it's really fascinating to see players' skills evolve over time.</div></div>
