I'm posting this for Shin, a friend of ours here in the Bay Area, who is a very strong VF5 player and one of the finalists at KS3.

He is interested in making a visit over his spring break somewhere in the US and he wanted to know if anyone have any suggestions or can help out with lodging, sightseeing, etc.

    Here is his message:

    From Shin:

Hello everybody! Nice to meet you.

I`m Sin#. Now I`m now staying in Northern California studying English.

In Japan, I played in Kakutou Sinseiki3 and got to best 16.

I will be on break from April 23 to May 6. So I`m thinking about going somewhere in USA for vacation. Do you guys have any recomendation? Now I`m interested in going to some nice and scenic place like Hawaii, Grand Canyon, and Niagara falls, or any good city. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
If possible, I also want to play VF5 with the local players.

Usually I play with San Francisco players, like Srider, Ice 9, Renzo, Kenan, Raoul. I want to meet other USA players as well.
If you can allow me stay at some place, it would be helpful for me in saving money during my trip. haha.

If I can stay, I will be sure to teach you some strategy, secret tecniques, and you guys can get more interest for VF and improve.
I will be waiting for a nice offer. Thank you.
    </div></div>

If anyone has any offers or suggestions, please let me know. It's possible that I will be traveling with him as well, and the time frame is sometimes in the next two weeks, for the duration of a few days. It's quite sudden and last minute notice, but if anyone is interested, please let me know. Thanks!!

in my opinion, as I visited a few places in the US, I have 2 suggestions.

    1. NY
    2. OH

why I am putting NY first is so simple. even though he can not play vf a lot,( because they are not on a break.) he can visit a lot of places such as the statue of liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of art, grand central station. etc Moreover, they are busier than players in other states, so they may not be able to host him since Kazu is not there anymore.

If he focuses on VF,actually, he has no choice. this is not A SUGGESTION.kind of a command, kind of a ceremony which he has to go to OH to play vf5 with maddy. he can not avoid maddy if he wants to play VF in the US... haha however, once he goes to OH, he will have nothing to do without games unless he has a driver license.

or maybe seattle? lol nothing to do though.

    Hello Shin and hello Srider,

For travel and cities with VF, I recommend, NYC, Florida, and Los Angeles area.

Catherine and I went to NYC in November, 2006 and are basically just waiting for a VF5 event to be announced so we can go there again. There's a ton of stuff to see in Manhattan alone and we certainly have more places to check out.

I've never been to Florida. I do believe that if you visit Miami you may be able to play VF with Ladon, Tonyfamilia, and the rest of the VF5 Florida players. Miami is a destination spot, I believe, but I'm not sure.

Los Angeles. There are a bunch of VFer's here who'd love to get in some games. You are both welcome to stay at my house. We have two couches so your sleeping is covered. I ask that you cover the cost of your food while you stay. I recommend you both rent a vehicle as doing things outside of VF pretty much requires you have a car of your own. Catherine and I both work during the week. She has her office at home so there's no problem if you just want to stay at the house during the week - it might not be tremendously exciting - we have movie theatre and what-not close by, however Riverside is not that exciting of a city - most of the cool cultural stuff (big museums, amusement parks, the beaches, etc.) is West of us.

Regardless, our house will be open for people to come and play VF with you probably any time you are staying with us and Catherine and I will certainly want to get in games during the evenings.

I'll be sure to throw VF5 parties Friday nights to Sunday if you like. Those involve extra VF5 set-ups and the like. Very cool, indeed.

EDIT: I'm in agreement with Yosuke that playing Maddy as well as the rest of Ohio crew is a great idea.

Post here or PM if you want to stay at my house. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a fantastic experience.

oh my god. I turned 21. you guys have to prepare me something hehe.willy!

    >>It's possible that I will be traveling with him as well, and the time frame is sometimes in the next two weeks, for the duration of a few days.

As I read this sentence, I feel he should go to OH. traveling two VF players together might mean you guys are going to play VF. also his sentences seem to focus on VF more than visiting. besides, that he asked srider to write that sentence means he wants to play VF

    >>I will be waiting for a nice offer.

oh my gosh. he is waiting for.... maddy! lol

it is unfortunate for maddy, I would say

1st NY(he needs no car around there and there are a lot of famous places)
2nd Oh(he needs a car. this may be the last chance to play maddy)
    ...
maybe around 10th La(it is kind of close to visit, but nice place)
I am not saying La is worse city than top cities.(you guys already know me and you know I will not say this kind of thing, right?)
I am saying that ''this is not a good time to go''. I don't think you guys will get together as much as last one because it is too early.

therefore, I suggest he can go to los on july for EVO west. this sounds much better.
    .....
    .....
    maybe around 38th seattle lol

it all depends on his money, decition, and where he wants to visit and see afterall. I suggest that he should decide where to go, then rewrite something. that would be easier for people.

    Yo, this is DancingFighterC:

    Hmm...

Shin's message mentions natural scenery. Addressing the things he specifically mentioned:

Hawaii is awesome, though I don't know if any VF scene exists there. But Hawaii is always awesome. Scenery, beautiful women, many islands, etc... If you want scenery and aren't concerned about VF at all for the trip, Hawaii is wonderful.

With the Grand Canyon, at least you can go on an alright road trip involving Arizona, Las Vegas, and from there a variety of different places (Lake Tahoe, New Mexico, etc...). Some people are down with the Southwest US road trips. Yeah, probably no VF here and the drives will be long, but you'll see some beautiful scenery. I think Route 66 has been closed for a few years now so that's no longer really an option, I think.

If you want to forget all about VF, but you want to see the world's first national park. Well there's Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming/Montana/Idaho. It's basically only an option if you want a gigantic camping trip out in nature, surrounded by country radio stations :p The park is 3,742 square miles (yeah, don't think you'll be hiking all of that). That's 8,987 square kilometers of national park (rivers, canyons, mountains, etc...).

Now... if you want to see the city. Well I highly recommend New York City. There's just so much to check out that it's hard to squeeze it all in one trip. On top of that, VF is an option and you might be able to get a couple days of VF. Heck, you might get a lot, but you still want to go sightseeing right?

Florida isn't a bad idea either. It's super hot and humid though (good or bad thing depending on who you are). Miami and Orlando have quite the tourist destinations and nightlife. You have amusement parks (Disney World, Universal Studios, etc...). And you have lots and lots of swampland and beaches. You might even have sharks! :p NASA is also in Florida, though not everyone goes crazy about visiting NASA. And... there are some good VFers in Florida /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Of course... *cough* you can always come to the Pacific Northwest. There is lots of natural scenery from some nice waterfalls, Oregon's beautiful (but sometimes cold and cloudy) coast, two nice metropolitan cities in Portland and Seattle, some mountains that might still have snowboarding (or not), and lots and lots of state parks. Lots and lots of hiking trails and forests too. There are hotsprings, but nothing like Japan (so I don't recommend it, unless you want to laugh at how hotsprings in US aren't what they are in Japan--from what I've heard).

To top it off, you have *cough* me and RaybladeX in Portland... and *CLAPS* Yosuke in Seattle. While he doesn't have a PS3 now, I probably would make sure somebody loans him one if you guys ever went to visit him. Shin and Yosuke being near each other and not playing VF is a crime. And you can ask Ice-9 about the "Poker Night" that's likely to happen on May 4th in Seattle--it's a biweekly event up there where fighting game players get together for poker and fighting games. Again, there is lots of scenery in the Pacific Northwest. There are cute girls, but not nearly as much as California (the difference is enough that I would have to tell Srider to not count on looking for hotties in the Northwest, though they are there, but he's spoiled by California). The only problem is that in the Pacific Northwest, there's no telling when it's going to rain or be sunny. It can be plenty of both in the same day.

I don't even know if the flowers are in bloom at Portland's Rose Gardens and Japanese Gardens yet. Though those gardens are beautiful. In Seattle you obviously have the harbor and the Space Needle among other things. Can also try to sneak onto the Nike (Beaverton, Oregon), Microsoft, and Nintendo campuses (Redmond, Washington). Nothing beats the Google Campus in your area from what I've heard though :p Oh yeah, no sales tax in Oregon.

That all said, I doubt you guys plan to go to the Northwest. But if you ever consider it, message me and I'll try to give you guys some ideas of where to go and maybe schedule some VF-related things if possible. I'd at least try to meet up in Seattle if that ever happened.

If you have your passport though, you could include Vancouver, BC in your Pacific Northwest trip and that place is awesome. Stanley Park, a good bar/club area, alchohol for anyone 19+, lots of good and decent Chinese food, sushi at decent prices, asian style arcades, site of the next Winter Olympics, great mountain, LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL CHINESE WOMEN, etc... Lots of beautiful people in general even.

Hope all of those ideas help.

    -Chanchai

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOSUKE! We're going to surround you with more beautiful girls... Again!!!

Thank you for sugestions. I read all of them.
You guys' recommendations are very interesting and I was so impressed.
The most important purpose of my trip is to go somewhere that I want to visit.
Actually, VF is just one way to enjoy my trip, but it's not the main purpose.
If I visited Ohio only to play VF with one special player or some other players, it makes no sense for me.
I can`t pay money only for this because I`m not a rich student.
I`m sorry. But If I could enjoy trip and VF both, that would be excellent! I know it`s fun to become a friend with VF players and hang out for
    other things besides VF!
Now, my plan is go to Las Vegas, LA and San Diego from April 25 or 26 to May 2 or 3.
So, If these areas' players are reading my letter, I hope you guys can give me some feedback or reply. Thank you!
