Jeffry's heavy down attack (AKA butt-bomb) strat

    What is this?

This post is intended to discuss one of the better kept secrets of VF--how to connect Jeffry's buttbomb (u+K+G). Of course it's not a secret per se as most experienced Jeff players have known this for long time. But it's seldom discussed and surprisingly few players know about this.

Okay so how do I connect Jeffry's buttbomb?

The idea is incredibly simple when you understand it. One way to put this is: Whenever d/f+K down attack COULD connect, but is not guaranteed, u+K+G will connect IF:

    1. You initiate u+K+G _after_ your opponent starts getting up, but still early enough so that u+K+G still comes out.
    2. Your opponent does ANYTHING other than roll-back. Meaning if he does side roll, or get-up in place, with or without rising kicks.

A few common situations when you can go for it:
    After connecting d/f,d/f+P+G throw
    After connecting P+G throw
Whenever d/f+K can be connected. (Not necessarily guaranteed.)
Whenever you connect d/f+K down attack(!)

    Sounds cool, any gotchas?

Needless to say, timing is sometimes tricky because timing also depends on how fast YOUR OPPONENT struggles. Also if he back rolls to avoid pounce, you will eat ground attacks of his choice.

    Then why go for it?

The first and primary reason I go for it is because it's frigging fun. Jeff has somewhat deserved reputation of being a boring character to play. But squashing your opponent's rising attack with buttbomb is possibly one of the most fun things you can ever do in VF. (When that happens you get a major counter damage too.)

Second practical reason is that it forces your opponent into a guessing game. In VF5 in particular d/f+K became very easy to avoid after eating throws. (A shame, really) But going for buttbomb can force your opp to roll back. And when they do that, THEN you can add d/f+K to nail those who try to roll back to avoid buttbomb.

Furthermore, some opponents choose deliberately to skip quick rise and eat d/f+K, in fear of ukemizeme. If you mix up u+K+G they would re-think their decision to give up quick rise, opening themselves, again, to ukemizeme.

    Isn't DF + K+G... get you a free butt-bomb if it connects?

BTW - I played you online, Attorney4Hire, in a Jeff vs. Jeff match. Gametag is StayRisKy

I respect you, Sebo, even if you kinda dogged me out for some things.

That being said, online Jeff is a monster, but have to keep it simple. That combo sounds fierce.

Like... online I get by with Knee -> P, P, P. How noob is that?

Jeff ain't boring. He's great. I find myself crouching like 90% of the match, though. Either crouch-dashing for some splash mountains, or throwing his crouch stagger D, F + P... abusing his sidekick (I don't care what anyone says, he has my favorite sidekick in the game). I feel kinda cheesy sometimes abusing mid/low/throw mix-up.

    But.. THAAAAAT'S MAAARINER POWER.

It's funny, I think I've lost every match against fellow Jeffry's and Wolf's in this game online. Although I beat Kinjou Akira and some high ranked Lei's, Vanessa's and Shuns.

I don't know why, but heavies own me in this game. I was probably complaining about you heavy down attacking me too..lol.

You want to play some later?

Sure, we can play whenever. I'm getting ready to get on now.

I also don't really use down attacks with Jeff besides his stomp.

I have to say I'm using this fairly often against the computer. I the problem I have hitting is if The move that knocked them down isn't fast enough to recover I can't get it off. I'm probably not timing it perfectly but yeah the Butt Bomb is something I've been using for a while since the punishment I receive if I miss isn't always deadly, normally ::shrug::. I tend to take about a quarter or a third of someones life with this included in a combo so its just been great.
