    I'm having serious problems here.

Who here can honestly say that they can always get out of their opponents' standing throws, especially when that opponent mixes them up. I've sat here practicing for an hour against the computer in training mode on how to get out of throws. I'm fighting against Aoi for example. She mixes up her throws so much that I don't know which one is coming. And then she usually does the special throws that you have to figure out the last direction that she pushed, or something like that. All of that [P]+[G], [2] [P]+[G], [6] [P]+[G] goes out the window.

It's a common complaint. The best tips I can give for getting out of throws is to keep in mind the throw escape window, and don't be ashamed if you can't do more than a double throw escape reliably (to start).

Some examples of the timing window screwing you up -

Situation 1 - You are jeffry and have your f,f+P,P blocked. It's a standard guaranteed-throw for your opponent. You must enter the throw escapes pretty much as soon as you recognize that the second punch was blocked, and you must enter the two escapes quickly - if you're a little slow, you will probably be entering escapes outside the throw escape window.

Situation 2 - You have jeffry's b+P+K,K blocked. It's -13, so now there are three more frames. You still need to enter the two throw escapes pretty quickly, but you also might want to hesitate a hair before entering them, otherwise you'll enter them too early. Worse, the opponent might do jab --> throw. The jab is guaranteed, and now your throw escapes won't work because too much time has passed from the moment you entered them to the moment the opponent throws. Getting out of a situation like this requires you to either A: predict what the opponent will do, and choose to escape right away or wait... or B: enter double throw escape, then enter it again just in case they did a jab-throw or delay. I don't think anyone really does B.

Situation 3 - You have akira's b,f,f+P+K blocked. It's something like -24 recovery. Now you're in real trouble. A halfway intelligent opponent will take guaranteed damage with some combo starter rather than throwing. But let's say they throw... they can throw IMMEDIATELY, in which case you need to enter the escapes immediately... they can wait five-ten frames and then throw, or they can wait up to 15ish frames before throwing. So you're pretty much screwed, there's no way you can tell what they'll do, and you still have to worry about jab-throw.

    There are other potential problems.

You can try for three throw escapes, and you have ~10 frames to do them. Let's say you escape F, DF, and D directions. At the moment you're doing the D escape, the opponent is doing the F throw. You will probably eat that throw because too much time passed between your F input and the opponent's F throw.

    --------

Bottom line - don't give the opponent too many guaranteed throw situations, and when you do, stick to no more than 2 escape attempts, and try to time them towards the end of your recovery animation.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I should look up that frame data article so that I can understand them more.

Good luck. .. there's some good frames stuff in this thread... click the link to myke's article at the end of my own, and maybe check out the other posts in that thread...

I see you're in maryland. I travel there routinely to hook up with our VF crew. We're a mix of average white guys and killer koreans. Lemme know if you wanna try some human competition.

I'm afraid I won't be much competition for you guys. I'm still in the early stages of my development, but I'm really feeling this game. I actually want to learn everything I can about it.

It's cool, we welcome learners. One hour of gathering play teaches you more than 10 hours against the computer. One hour against GOOD players teaches you more than 100 against scrubs. So I really hope you don't get all shy and decide not to come just because you'll get raped. I really enjoy playing guys like sumeragi and he pretty much bends me over the table.
