How to use Aoi in Versus?

I have been an avid Kage player for a while, but I am now making a transition into Aoi. I have noticed a distinct difference (as with all characters) between play in Versus and play in Quest or Arcade mode. How would you suggest I change my tactics against a human opponent, particularly those who use lightening-fast combo characters, such as Jacky and Lao?

study your opponent a bit and understand basic situations when you know your opponent will throw a mid or whatever level strike, then reverse reverse reverse /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif most people find it too risky for not enough reward, but i feel if you're gonna use Aoi you better reverse! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One good pointer is realize that just b/c your at a frame disadvantage doesn't mean you're a true disadvantage with Aoi. Most of her good moves aren't throw counterable, and when you're at even -6 or -7, something like [4][4][P]+[K], [2][3][6][P]+[K] or even a reversal is all you need. She's a fun charater.

when are good uses for the [1][2][6][P]+[K] sabaki it never seems to sabaki for me and just comes out too slow.

against a human player, you can do elbow cancels,or sweep cancels!and mix ups work better than in quest
but in quest mode,it never works,AI guesses all the time what you will do after cancels, and so,can counter attacks you! /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just a quick note: it was probably a typo on your part but the correct command for that move is [2][3][6][P]+[K] /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the advice, but I still have one question: how would you deal with fast combo characters? The players that I face use a lot of combos in quick succession, switching up the high/mid/lows to confuse me. I need some advice just so that they don't swamp me with attacks. Jacky in particular is a challenge. Is the Tenchi 'in you ([4][P]+[K]+[G]) stance a good idea? I was thinking it might work well in-between strings. Thanks! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If your problem is getting poked to death, then spam the double-stop: [4][3][P]. Even if you stagger them there's not a whole lot of opportunity, but it will interrupt them, which is it's main use in Evo.

    [2][3][6][P]+[K]:
When to use it depends on the player. Sometimes after an elbow cancel or double-stop isn't bad. Double Stop isn't throw counterable. If they try to throw, you'll hit them, and be at a very slight advantage. If they try to punch you, you'll likely sabaki it (which is a crumble). If it's a kick, they'll destroy you.

Sounds crazy, but after a throw-counterable move isn't bad. Getting thrown after a TC move isn't always what's going to happen. Punch->throw is quite common. In such a case, the punch will be sabaki'ed.

I would not recommend the YY stance against jacky unless he's a fan of punches. You will only fool him once before he does a lot of circular attacks. I guess it depends on the player beyond that. I usually throw Jackies often.

well Aoi is faster than both Jacky and Lau so no matter how ligtning fast they are, you're still faster. So instead of playing a defensive game and guessing where their quick strikes will land to defend/revers keep on the offensive and apply pressure. Lots of guard cancels and things like that, also if you can keep them standing so you can just poke them to death sorta, thats good.

I have another question, this time about the YY stance ([4][P]+[K]+[G]). It seems that when I use it, there is a 50/50 chance that when the parry occurs, I can connect with a move, or my opponent just kicks me in the face. Which moves are good followups to the YY parry, especially in terms of speed?

    Yes,I have the same problem..........
after the punch parry from YY stance,I do [P]->[P]+[G](back throw)
    sometimes I get [P]hit-<back throw
often I have my [P] wiffs and the throw too(because the opponent ducks),so I go to a low throw
sometimes,my [P] hits, but the throw was a normal front throw (not from back)
maybe it depend on close/open stance,or your speed execution of you punch? /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. I use [3][P]+[K] to lower an opponent's stance, and immediately follow with a low throw. The opponent staggers down and the throw connects. It is a really choice move for use against those who never dodge. I think the SLIGHT unreliability might have something to do with a backwards crouch dash. Any ideas?

i noticed i sometimes whiff attacks too, i think it has to do with open/closed stance and what your'e parrying. As for a follow up i usually just do [6]+[P],[P] cuz you can't hit with much more, you can try the new dashing swipe to double palm, or dashin in and throwing.

But Jacky's main game is taking the advantage. The fact that half of his game is mid as well doesn't help. It's very likely that if you're playing a good Jacky, youl'l seem to always lose when trying to strike. In this sense, he feels much faster than Aoi, or any of the others.

STFU Shang! dont make me bitch slap you next time i see you. I know i'm a noob i dont claim to be some VF master, shit i'm not even into it like some of you guys driving across the freakin country to play each other. But i do play Aoi so i can offer atleast some insight, nevermind the fact i play Aoi different than a lot of people seem to so it's all from a different point of view, i like to reverse a good amount, most people ignore it.

I don't give a crap who posts advice on this forum, as long as they don't fly off the handle and pointlessly attack other players. This forum is for advice on Aoi. If you have some, you're welcome. If not, get the hell out. If you have beef with someone, keep it to yourself. If you can't manage that, go find a dark corner somewhere where you can grow up. Grow a brain while you're at it. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

A lot of people dont realize Aoi can reverse from the back so a good tactic is to [4][4][P] out of nowhere to turn around and reverse mid (if someone tries to kick you mid) or high if somone tries to catch you in a [P][P][P] combo. Just a little side thing I knowticed /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
