Hosting versus Joining

Lets open up a discussion on this one guys.

At first I was under the impression that my win% was inflated b/c I always join, but after hosting a for a few hours here and there i've decided, not so fast my friend. I had Kyu's coming out of the wood work at me, , guys i'd never fight if i was joining, guys i'd just turn the game off if they were the only options.

What do you guys think competition wise? Its just interesting if you think about it, most people who host-always host, most who join always join. There is a whole culture of joining fighters out there that i don't even know!!

(and I am aware of the gentleman's agreement that master+ should host rather than join, and think it is appropriate.)

It all depends for me. Generally I join other people's room, because to me hosting generally means you're pretty good or decent. But if there's a bunch of 1 or no bars, then I'll just make a room, but you're right. I usually get nothing but 10th kyus with no bars flooding the joint and I end up turning the game off. It's rare that I get someone pretty good to join my room. The 10th kyus generally beat them to it.

I would rather host not because of the skill levels involved because of the fact that you don't know who you are going to face. I used to always search but I rarely ever see enough matches doing that to really make it worth my while. It takes me forever to find decent matches that way. My issue with hosting is that I find a ton of noobs more than I do if I were just searching myself and I don't mind facing them but when I face the same person again and again and I know them to be a noob it gets annoying sometimes. I may even throw matches away sometimes just to let them feel like "they beat the master" so to speak so they can leave me alone finally and it usually works that way. The randomness of hosting makes it fun too knowing that you may find good people at anytime.

Lol, yeah, I have hosted a few times and than it say......konjou Akira, and i'm like, nooooooooooo....I actually love to face him b/c he's so darn good, but i'd rather do it from 2 player side, its my strong side thanks to XBOX Live.

I join 70%, host 30%. I want to host more, but usually I have to force myself to host because I don't want to play random bad players (like you guys said)

It's funny though, I make myself host because I feel bad that I'm picking opponents, so I feel like I'm getting those inflated wins. When I finally host, my win % goes up, now down, but I stop hosting after a while because I want to play some enjoyable matches...

Guess grass is always greener on the other side. So I switch back and forth.

I switch back and forth, I like both sides. If I want to get rid of some kyu or stomper from joining my session again, then I search for opponents. If I can't find anybody decent, I host again.

Yeah, you definitely get a lot of kyus, but I think it evens out in that you never get to pick your opponent, so when strong guys are on, you can't just avoid them when you start losing to them.

The other challenge is people who've been demoted or are using new accounts that try to use you to rank up. This is where it gets tough because generally these guys will only play you if they know they can win.

I hunt for matches with good connections and good player. I have no interest in wading through kyus. IMO hosting is mainly for those who want to be lazy.

An interesting question. I like the thrill of not knowing what you are going to get in competition. But its not all innocent. I also feel most comfortable starting out on that side (even though its just a mental thing). Furthermore, Sometimes I feel like working on wall tacktics and other times I want to practice the ring out. So on the other hand I like being able to control those variables too. I guess for us Host Happy Gamers we like random competition but in predictable settings. And perhaps just the opposite for Joiners?? Just a thought.

wait a minute worst player, hosting is for those who want to host, or want 1st player side. we can't discourage hosting or there will be no one for me to join against

Hm... fuck it, maybe I'll stop hosting. I think the implication is that I host because I'm lazy and I want easy wins, perhaps to inflate my win percentage, about which I don't give fuck number one.

If I could reset my wins and losses without paying money I would... but I think from now on I just hunt.

    Thanks for the insight guys.

    Hey Blahzie,
I personally request that you continue to Host. I was just asking opinions, and i love that when you are on i can hit you up for ranked matches. Please all ye hosters, don't stop hosting, that was not the point of this thread. The point was to gather peoples perceptions. Whats the difference if you are hosting and beating the low ranked who come through or if you are joining and beating 4 and 5th dans, there is not the competition for any of us moderately high ranked players to play only peeps of like skill level, unless you wish to spend major down time looking for matches.

People like Blahzie have a good reputation for being willing to play anyone, not for inflating win %. And i agree on the win loss, i can't wait till my membership runs out, i'm getting a new and switching gamertags, lol, ambush baby, haha.

I host when noone seems to be on worth while hosting. So I host hoping a good player will join my hosted match and BAM! KYU POWER!
When Xboxlive is slow though I admit hosting is the way to go.

I host in any situation except me being Master. I had my Master stolen from me by a Shun with so much lag I could barely work inputs. Sucked.

I usually host but I do join other peoples games too, usually if no one is joining mine haha. I don't stop hosting if I keep getting beat by the same people too, that seems like a pathetic thing to do.

If i'm looking to join a game, I normally look for names that are familiar from here. I don't want to be joining matches against random Halo fans that are spamming p and k with Lei Fei.

Same for me, according to the Xbox menu info, it may be due to "strict" address conversion of the router or something. Often when I find green latency bar opponents, I fail trying to connect to them, even if they are obviously still there. I get same person like 3 times in a row when Im searching and I fail to connect to them each time. Infuriating.

I admit that I tend to challenge when Im at master, but it doesnt lead far as I dont get ANY opponents that way. Ive lost master several times now after hosting, most times due to lag.
