I just got my arcade stick and have been praticing for a few hours and can't do anyting like what I can do on the pad, I can't even do sarah and jackys movelist.
Diagonals are seeming really hard because it is just not regestiering and it regestiers as [6] or [2].
Do I just need to keep praticing with it to get good, or should I just give up nad play on a pad or is the Logic 3 stick really crap. /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif

On the plus the pad seems so easy /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It takes about 2 weeks atleast to get used to using a stick. At first I had problems with diagonals and in the end halfcircles and 3/4 circles. But then again; why did you get a Logic 3 stick (wtf is that?).
All in all; sticks do take abit of time to get used to so don't panic if you don't feel an instant incresment in your game. But when you're used to it you won't ever want to go back hands down.

Take his word for it, this is coming from a devoted pad player. Ihad difficultypulling off 90% of Akira's movelist, and NO combos worked, its takes time, in my case I play a lotof 2D fighters with a stick,so if you do that, it'll take less time. And when you do get used to it, you WILL never go back. Also,if you use more than the original buttons, dont, trust me. Ifyou ever want to be good at tournaments, play with just the [G],[P], and [K] buttons.Thats how it is in japan(If you ever go there to play)

It's not anything out of the ordinary. I played pad for a good four months before I started using an arcade stick. Then... for another half a month at least, I spent on getting smoother and more consistent with the arcade stick. Now I gotta tell you, it feels pretty good, well worth the time. All you need to do is practice more.

I can't really use just the [P][K][G] buttons because ther sticks odd, it got all oif the dualshock2 buttons on it, but diagonals are getting slightly better.
I can't do [2][3][6] or[2][1][4] thogh because all that will come out is [2][6]

Ok been pratising and getting a small bit better at diagonals and having fun.
Nearly done sarah and jacky's movelist just stuck on things like Jacky's Kiss of the dragon [3][P]+[K] hit [P]+[G]

One peice of advice; get someone to hide your pad for you. The safety it provides is very tempting. So just store it somewhere and keep practicing.

By the way I'm in the same situation as you right now. Thus my signature. A "modified Chwan" is actually when I fuck it up, and Shun's [9][P] comes out.

To get used to my stick I just went into training and just praticed crouchdashing to get used to my stick( got a SC2 stick) /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Also practice adding jumping with the dashing, plus fuzzy guard practice will help you out also. Breaks in the stick /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will get a picture of the stick up.
I tried quest for the first time with the stick
    8/2 80% with sarah
I can do nearly all of the bryants moves and tring to learn to play wolf on stick because I was champion on a pad.

    The modified chowan
I envy you, You can do a diagonal by accident

Most people here will have no idea what im on about but if you play Marvel vs Capcom 2 spend about 2-3 days learning magnetos rom infinite and diagonals will come alot easier.
Also hiding your pad is a VERY good idea. When i was learning stick (SC2 stick that is) i would always revert back to a pad when i was getting my ass kicked. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Me too when I first started -_-... And I remember I always forget to change the control settings when I switch back to pad for a few games, so when I hit guard it punches, punch kicks, and whatnot, AHRGHJAGDGHA. Follow that wise adviser and hide that controller.

Yes, the other thing that I discovered is that your ease of play largely depends on the stick itself. Most American sticks suck. I know, because I tried out a lot of them while shopping for a stick, myself, earlier this week.

Of the American joysticks I tried (teardrop stick), the one that I liked the most was the Real Arcade Universal "Tournament Ready" by Pelican. Normally I abbhor Pelican products in a way reminiscent of certain scenes in the Christian Bible, mainly when God is trashing the planet.

However, this stick is actually quite good. It's got wooden construction and real arcade buttons and joystick. It's heavy, unlike most home joysticks, and it has plenty of space below the stick and buttons to rest my wrists. Sitting in a chair, I can raise my feet with a box and set it in my lap, and it's quite comfortable sitting there for long periods of time. The stick cost me $50, most of which I paid for by trading in a few games I didn't play anymore.

I found the transition from joypad to stick to be as easy as I think humanly possible. Even though my second day with the stick felt a little off, right now I can't imagine ever going back to using a pad. I'd probably just box up the pad and store it away if I didn't need it for non-fighting games.

Come to think of it... I'm not playing any of those right now. =P

P.S. I eventually plan to get a Hori stick, maybe even one of those sweet Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution sticks. I prefer the Japanese 'ball' stick, and I've heard that Hori makes the best... I just didn't have nearly $100 for the stick and shipping. ~_~

Well usually a Hori stick will run you around $70 USD after shipping.

Depends on the stick. I want a VF4E stick, personally.

My VF4E Stick was $98.00 Canadian, so it would prolly be in the ~$70 range for you /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well I have a whole lotta bookmarks that tell me $90+ The stick is getting rarer, so I'm going to need to get it sooner than later. My wife is going to adopt this stick when I get my Hori, though. =)

The SCII stick I've got now is made by hori and it's really good, [3][3][4][6][P] is really easy on a stick
[G]+[P]+[K] [4][3][P]+[G] [4][P] is way easier, it is hard getting used to using the stick in matches and doing DLC

I would recommend against getting the VF4 Evo stick from Hori. I've got one, and after only a year of not-so-hard play, the buttons are on the fritz. My punch and kick buttons both cease working on occasion. I'd much sooner recommend the regular VF Hori stick, it's a beast (Bigboy landed [9][P], [2][P], Yah YAHHH on Kofu Megane with his), and it lasts forever. That grey Namco stick with the yellow buttons is hella nice too.

Hey...shouldn't you be working on that monster take-home?

    Slacker.

Unfortunately I wasn't in the room for this, but as Richard tells it, the combo was [2_][3][P],[3][P]+[K],[P],[2_][3][P],[3][P]+[K]. For those of you who speak Koen-Ken, that's yah YAHH punch yah YAHH (where you see caps, make your scream curdle blood). This seems abunch more likely since before that match, Richard had never actually performed the combo. He's a freak like that. Also, it wasn't on his VF4 stick...it was on that namco stick that was floating around.

If you can find a VF4 stick in good shape, go for it...if you have problems getting your hands on one though or if you play other fighting games, the namco stick is really rather nice.

    Now.

Go write that goddamned paper, fool!
