Getting jumps instead of evades

Since FS's release, I've been frequently getting "random" jumps when I intended to evade. After having it happen several times to me at MLG versus GentlemanThief, I investigated and came up with the reason for my jumps. I never heard anyone mention the same problem, so I thought this was something exclusive to me (which I should know is never the case). However, Chibiaya mentioned it during his recent set with Rodnutz so I thought I'd share. For me, the problem arises because of two bad habits: Evading too soon and holding Guard after pretty much everything I do. Specifically, I evade and then hold Guard. Admittedly, not the smartest option, but I always thought (and have been told) that holding Guard when not attacking was the right thing to do and couldn't hurt. Not so much in this case.

Normally, as long as there is at least one neutral frame between an evade input (2 or 8) and pressing Guard, the result is an evade attempt and not a jump. However, when disadvantaged, the game is a little less strict on the input for a jump. In fact, several neutral frames can pass between your evade input and pressing guard and a jump (for 8 input) or nothing (2 input) can possibly come out. If you evade too early or you time it right but your opponent delays their attack (what GT was doing to me) then instead of a failed evade you will jump (8G) or simply guard (2G). The second case is the most important. Evading too early is easily fixed and 2/8G won't be a problem. But with delayed attacks 2/8G will always screw you up.

tl;dr: Never simply press guard after an evade attempt. At best, you guard when you meant to evade. At worst, you jump straight up like a fool.
