    Hey All,

I just talked to my pal Noah Musler over at SOA about the problems with the Japanese version of Evo, namely the lack of a way to use characters from different save files for versus play. In addition, I mentioned the missing support for Progressive Scan which was rumored to be inluded.

According to Noah, SOA is well aware of the problem, and has already started working towards getting AM2 to fix it (he said they had sent AM2 word about it, and were waiting to hear back). While I still don't know if there will be a US release, it looks like they're worried about this problem for any future release, and are willing to take letters from us.

Noah said the BEST way to voice your opinion about this is actual, real letters written by hand, and sent to him at SOA:

    Noah Musler
    Marketing Department
    c/o Sega of America
    650 Townsend Street
    Suite 650
    San Francisco CA 94103
    USA

I'd really advise people to write the letters, because it will probably make a difference. Remember how the US version of VF3tb had a versus mode that was added for the US release?

While the letters should be kept to the point, feel free to add concise suggestions about anything you'd like to see (personally, I'd like to be able to complete "Quest Orders" in versus mode, like the arcade).

Start writing those letters! And be sure to thank Noah for his help too!

Spot, thank you so much for getting us a real source to direct our pleas. Without it, I can easily imagine hundreds of people going unheard simply for lack of a mail/email address. I'll be dropping mine in the mail tomorrow.

Hrm, the versus mode was a simple oversight that was omited from VF3tb becouse of the insane shedule Genki was under for the game.

Spotlite, can you send me an email at ali@the-nextlevel.com.
need to ask you a thing or two and my outlook screwed up at a time when I didnt have a backup on my PPC of my contacts etcetera so I lack all my contacts and stuff.

No problem, Creed. A lot of people have looked at the thread, but not many have replied, so I hope people are interested. I think that while the new save function isn't so terrible for local groups, we'll be feeling how it sucks at TiT this weekend.

I think one letter per person is all people should write, but I'd encourage everyone who's interested in this issue to write a letter, even people outside the US who are thinking of playing the US version.

Do you know if the European version being localised from the Japanese version, or (as usually happens) from the US version?

What exactly is progressive scan?I know Tekken 4 included it's use but my mate reckons it'll actually break your telly if you use it.

Progressive scan is a special setting that allows people with high resolution TVs who are using a component video cable (RGB video signal) to see a higher quality picture.

OK so it's actually like having the "arcade" graphics at home right.

    Well, not exactly.
Normal TVs display the images interlaced. That means that the lines of the image are drawn alternately.
So first all the odd numbered lines are drawn and on the next pass the even numbered ones.
HDTVs and PC monitors (and projectors) are capable of displaying in progressive mode, which means that all lines on the screen are drawn on each pass, which makes for a more stable picture.

Seeing as there is no US version anounced as of yet and even if one were to be anounced the PAL release would be out well before it I think its safe to say that the Euro version will be its own localisation instead of just using US code and recompiling it for PAL.

Well, it all depends on the timing.
Making a PAL version is more work than a US one. US would only require translating the game to English and the manual to English and French (for the francophone Canadians).
PAL version would require additional translation of the manual to German, Spanish, Italian, ect.
Also they'd need to fix some coding to implement 50/60Hz toggles.

So if the US version is greenlighted, both versions could very well release at the same time (PAL release is sheduled for summer afaik).

Hey Spotlight any word from your friend at Sega, did he get our letters. Somebody I emailed said they were going to forward my email about the save system to Yu Suzuki, I take that with a grain of salt though. Anyway I wonder if there is any news on this save system front?

Yeah like Suzuki has anything to do with VF these days.

    Well,

while I was asked not to quote anyone, I've heard through the grapevine that after heavy requests from both SOA and Sega of Europe to fix the problem, AM2 isn't going to change it. I guess that it would interfere with release schedules somehow, but in the end I just think that while it was an important issue for the other parties involved, AM2 just doesn't care.

I hate to say it, but I think unless it's to serve as some kind of cash cow, Japanese game developers couldn't care less about what anyone outside the Japan thinks/has to say about their games; or if we only get the dreggs of what they give the native audience. I think the US side of the game industry that supports/sells those products to foreigners is in perfect agreement: why waste extra money promoting new ideas etc? It doesn't really matter if the save system is a little botched in Japan, does it? I mean, look at Kakutou ShinSeiki. No wonder they don't have time to fix anything. They're too busy making sure the velvet pillow under the ass of every japanese VF fan is perfectly snug and comfortable, while players in Korea, Europe, China, the US and everywhere else get only what's profitable in the short run for Sega (Oh wait, we get King of Route 66! Thanks AM2!).

And while it can be blamed partially on the industry as a whole, I think AM2 is basically to blame here; I'll point out like others have before that Sega Rosso made sure every version of Initial D had that game's version of a card system. I'll never forget the look on Yu's face at E3 2001 when Adam, Andy, Sal and I approached him to say we were Vf fans, it was like "leave me alone, freaks". Just my opinion.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

PS: thanks to all 2 of you who wrote letters, Noah said they were well written and to the point.
