Fighting Vipers 2 feature on SRK (with Heruru interview!)

Yo! Been a while. How've you all been? Good? Crazy busy here with me.

But anyhow, this is something I've been working on for a while: Shoryuken started up a series where they discuss lesser-known fighting games and their merits with experienced players. A bunch of folks I know had already contributed, so I contacted the staff and proposed something about Fighting Vipers 2. After months of research, recollection, coordination, digging through books and website archives, and procuring and converting old tournament tapes.

I think the end result was well worth it - even if you're not all that interested in FV2, Jason and I talk a lot of AM2 development history and where and how certain people influenced certain titles. (He's actually going to be interviewing Masahiro Onoguchi soon, which I'm really looking forward to.) And who doesn't want to hear a top player like Heruru talk about a game he loves?

It was a ton of fun to work on, a real passion project for me, and I'm thankful to everyone who helped: Jason, Patrick, Ian, Heruru, Elric/TheN4US, and the Fight-A-Base folks who dug up the WWE connection (!) the game has. I've already gotten feedback from folks with even more interesting info, so who knows, maybe I could do a whole big bit on AM2 fighting lineage sometime.

 

I only played a little bit of Fighting Vipers.. This is a great right up and would love to learn the game now.

Didn't know what fighting vipers was and certainly the VF connection is a surprise too!

FV2 is one of the silliest games ever created when it comes to character design. But it's so much fun.
