Honarable mention goes to Super Sreet Fighter 2 Turbo. My arcade just got it and this is the first time I have ever really played it. So I cant put it on the list but it is up there.

After reading PCGamer's (disappointing) Top 50 Games of all time list, some friends and I were discussing this topic, and how hard it would be to create a top 10 list for movies, books, or video games. I can guarantee the top spots, but it gets kind of iffy after that. I'll give it a shot, though I'm bound to remember some different ones later:

1/2 (tie) VF2 (SAT and Arcade) and Quake 1 (PC)
3) Lemmings (Amiga)
4) Panzer Dragoon Saga (SAT)
5) X-wing Trilogy (X-wing, Tie Fighter, & X-wing vs Tie)(PC)
6) C&C:Red Alert (PC)
7) Space Quest I & II (PC)
8) Ikari Warriors (PC)
9) Zork (PC)

With the exceptions of 4, 7, and 9 these represent my most-played games. Given a few friends, a few drinks, and a few hours, I might come up with a different list, though my top two wouldn't change. If I counted the Quake and VF series as one choice apiece, I could guarantee that my top two spots would be fixed forever. There is nothing on the horizon that has even the potential to dethrone these masterpieces.

no nintendo games? that is werid i would rate all nintendo and rare as my top 10 maybe some sega games as well

My God, this is hard. I'm going to cheat even worse than Chris:

Top Ten Fighting Games
1) VF3/tb
2) KOF95 and VF2 tied
4) SS2
5) SF3:3s, DOA2 and T3/TTT are tied
8) SFA2
9) ST
10) VO

All are from the arcade of course. VF3 is what made me obsessed with the arcade. KOF95 and VF2 are what brought me into the arcade on a regular basis. SS2 was the first game I became really, really good at. 3S, DOA2 and TTT are all remnants of the legacy that VF3 left, and SFA2 was the companion game that I spent quite a bit of time on while playing VF3 in the arcade. VO needs no explanation--it was an awesome game that I could not afford to play and master. ST was the game that started the arcade versus scene and it was a game that I loved as a child, even though I did not understand it the way I do now.

1) SNES Zelda, still the ultimate
2) FF2, the RPG that introduced me to RPGs
3) Arcade Daytona USA, the granddaddy of racing games
4) FF3
5) Skies of Arcadia
6) Super Metroid
7) Super Bomberman, what an awesome party game
8) NES Zelda
9) Zelda 64
10) NES Contra (the one with the secret code!)

Curiously, no game from the 32-bit generation is in that list. I'll probably remember more and change half the list later on anyway...

 

I'm gonna cop out a little and put group games in series instead of individual installments where applicable.
