Best Character for Beginner

    Who do you guys think are the best characters to start out with for a beginner? I am not new to fighting games. I've played nearly every single one since Street Fighter II came out. I used to own VF4:EVO and played it for a good while against friends. I always used Kage but I never got hardcore into a character by learning them completely.

    When i get VF5 on 360 on October 30th, i plan to invest my time into a beginner character for a while, and then move on to a slightly harder to master character. I would like to know everyone's opinions on who would be a good starter character. Judging from the demo, it seems as though El Blaze might be a good option.

    Though you should try playing with all characters to see who suits your play-style best, for a beginner, I would recommend Jacky over the others. He is an overall fun and strong character to play as, and (relatively) easier to learn in the earlier stages compared to other characters, in terms of command execution and strings.

    El Blaze and Lau are pretty beginner-friendly too.

    El Blaze is good for easy damage. He has loads of staggers, and then you just pop out 6K, 6PK. S'well easy.

    It depends on your background if you are already a fighting gamer.

    A LOT of tekken players take to Brad for some reason, he's a great character though.

    Most 2D guys I know play whatever. I recommend Jacky and Kage for them.

    I think doa players would find Pai and possibly Eileen the easiest to get into. Pai has pretty much every option a doa character has minus the big boobs. Eileen is pretty very simple and a lot of her concepts are almost doa-ish.

That was mine in Evo, and it fucking works.

    Lei Fei, i picked him up in VF4 and it was great. He's easy and if u can master him he becomes great for you in the beginning. But eventually your friends catch onto your strategy and your whole game is fucked up with a simple side step from your opponent. So learn Lei Fei, then Shun Di.

    Lei Fei is god tier, a simple side step means you should use full circs. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    Lei Fei isn't an easy character to play. The expansive movelist and tons of stances with low mobility and the number of unconventional situations and special properties he has makes him very un-noob friendly unless you're just going to mash. In which case, you probably shouldn't bother asking this question in the first place.

    Jeffry's gameplan is very simple, but he is a very high risk character that demands strong defense from the get go. I started with Jeffry, but I don't recommend it because it can be very frustrating to have to deal with characters that are much safer and have better special properties than you.

    Pai also has a lot of special properties and isn't all that straightforward because her damage isn't that high. She is very strong, but requires a bit of experience with the basics of the game to really comprehend.

    Lau is a pretty good starter character because he can do a lot of damage with his basic strings very quickly.

    Jacky is also pretty good for beginners, because he's well-rounded and doesn't have too much difficult execution.

    I'm not too familiar with the changes to Goh in 5, but he might be ok to pick as a beginner as well. Not really sure?

    I wouldn't recommend Goh to someone starting out. He relies on good usage of the mid/throw mixup and sabakis, and a lot of his moves leave him at a disadvantage on normal hit. Definitely not a beginner character imo.

    EMX, lei fei is not that hard to get into actually. He is not like Shun/Vanessa where you need to know alot. Because with him you can just go into a flow chart and you'll pwn any new player and even 50-60% of decent players. I honestly think Jacky is harder to get into than Lei Fei in VF5, Jacky might have simple controls but getting damage with him is waaayyy harder what with everything being stance dependent, needing iai-cancel, mC/MC dependent.

    Jacky, Pai, and Lau. All very easy to get going with and learn the system.

    I wouldn't recommend lei fei at all.

    If you want to learn the VF system, Jeffry hands down.
    Sebo's movelist really is all you need, I'd just add /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif because of the prevalence of fuzzy guard in VF5.

    Otherwise, yeah what other people said:
    tekken -> brad
    doa -> pai

    At a beginning level no one ever crouches and don't know what fuzzy is until they make a thread about it.

    ---

    As for Jeffry being the character for learning the system... that is why I played him for so long.

    Advantage = High throw or Knee

    I'll agree with you if we're talking about intermediate players who don't really know the Lei-Fei matchup, but I still don't recommend using him as a newbie because he's about as anti-textbook VF as you can get, and it will make it hard to understand the basics of the system when you're dealing with moves that don't really have an analogue with the other characters.
