I wasn't quite sure where to put this.

I've been practicing on 4 for a few weeks, not sure if it will help me any in 5, but I just want to get a feel for the game.

I heard Goh was one of the hardest characters to use, but he and Aoi both appeal to me greatly. [Goh more than Aoi]

I'm new to VF, but not fighters in general. I understand the terms & frame data, etc.

    My question :
Could anyone give me some tips for a beginning Goh player?
What are his pros and cons etc?

    Thanks in advance. =]

Cool, thanks alot for the reply. ;]

I don't know who any of the HLPs are, so I couldn't really search on YouTube for anything.

I'll look those players up, thanks again.

Rather than make a new topic, I thought I'd use the same one. I hope you don't mind. Thanks in advance to ANY and all answers on the topic.

Can someone list some good, beginner Goh combos? I find myself only really using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (CH) -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif.

Also, what are some pressure strings he has that can lead to some throw scenarios? I feel bad, because I started trying to learn him because I <3 Judo, and some matches pass where I don't attempt a single throw. Instead just mashing on safe things like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, etc.

    So, yeah. Please help.

You'll find a lot of your answers on the wiki. You've been told this before.

Also, the more you try throwing in your matches, the more you'll find good places TO throw. If you don't try, you will never succeed at it.

You really just have to develop the ability to sniff your throws out. Other than /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(CH) and BT /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(CH), which will set up things like /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif-into-rape. That's bread-and-butter stuff if you watch my match vids with THE_WALL (Replay board, Utah matches).

Other than that I really don't know. For me, it'd be really hard to teach, verbally. I just have a good nose for throws and have had it for some time. Practice up and you should get there eventually.

I used to have problems with 'sniffing' throws as well. I over came this by 1st going through the arcade several times without using a single punch to win as many matches as possible against all the characters. This gets you aware of all the opportunities for throws without being set up by you. Then I went to the dojo and found some setups that worked for me.

I think this will help with the nose thing Neobest is talking about.

I'm starting to land a few more throws. Mostly just with the tick-throw game. People tell me I play a very aggressive Goh.

So mostly just stuff like Dp, Dp, crouch dash, throw... or p -> throw. Even OM + P ~ throw...

Online, DF, DF +P+G into his ground throw, then a DF+P works with solid results.

You said his knee and D+K (BT) lead into crouch throws? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I really don't know -- why/how?

Knee and BT 4K both gut stagger on counter IIRC, which set up crouch throws. Another throw tip, as often as possible try to go for command throws over just say P+G or 6 P+G. It's important to maximize your damage off of your throws. Whenever possible, try the 270 6 P+G throw, unless your opponent can break it consistently.

I guess I made it sound kind of strange but it was really the best way I could think to describe it. With some exceptions, throws are more a case of a player sensing/detecting them rather than constructing them for themselves.

That said, once you get the hang of it, you can get a feel for most opponents pretty quickly. I don't really think there's any trick to it, just takes practice and experience.
