Basara ~Mekira button input problem

When I look at the demonstration of the move, it appears as:
    p+k+g
    4
    3p+k

Every time I try the move, it appears as:
    p+k+g
    4
    3
    3p+k

The 3 and the 3p+k are linked together.

How do I get the 3p+k, instead of
    3
    3p+k that are linked?

It sounds like you are inadvertently attempting to buffer /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif after the second movement of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, instead of buffering /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif.

What I usually do is in one complete motion, press all three, move the stick to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif and then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, and press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif at the same moment I hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif, then roll the stick upwards a bit to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif and spam the hell out of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif... it's not clean by any means, but I get it out pretty consistently.

Thanks, but it didn't work out for me. I think I need to practice the 3p+k so it comes out correctly in the real time display. In Basara~Mekira, it says 43P+K during hit. Does that mean that 43P+K is being buffered?

Yes, there is a small window for the following commands.

The frame counter on the left shows you the frame timing/window for a particular move.

I wouldn't spend too much time on the command input window, to be honest (though it's useful to gauge the timing of hit throws). The actual game's usually a little more forgiving than the examples you'll see through training mode.

The Basara works like Akira's SPoD; you need to be accurate, yes, but you also need to be QUICK. The 43P+K command pretty much needs to be complete before the initial punch enters its hit frame. So you need to start buffering IMMEDIATELY. Don't wait to see if the P+K+G connects, because that'll be too late.

Do I just need to keep practicing the attack until i can input it fast enough to pull the move off? I have only been able to pull the move off once.

    Pretty much. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Don't worry if you can't get it at first. It's one of those things that's a little tricky until you get it down, and then it becomes pretty much second nature.

It'll be much harder to do reliably on a gamepad than it would be on a stick, though.

hehe... this is definitely not average experience, but I tried doing Akira's SPOD (stun palm of doom), which is the same as the Basara, and could never get it down. It wasn't until about 10 years later in Evo that I was able to get the rhythm of the attack down.

It really is tricky, but just remember to think that it's all really just one string of moves, instead of 3 individual moves. When you get that perspective, and you get used to inputting things pretty quickly, it'll become much easier. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

What makes using a stick better than using a gamepad? I've never used a stick before.

More precise inputs, easier to actually do multi-directional inputs very quickly, and you don't end up killing your thumbs. Gamepads were not really designed to be able to do the type of inputs VF requires in some cases, so it'll just be naturally harder to do (unless you have hyper-active thumbs). /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

thanks guys. I'll just have to keep practicing. I guess I'll be seeing a lot more of the Dojo for a while.

Me asking this is way of topic, but I'd like to get a stick. Are they compatible with every fighting game because along with VF5 I have Guilty Gear X2? Also, what would I be looking for in a stick? Finally, where would I buy a stick? Sorry for the off-topicness. You really peaked my interest in sticks.

    True and false.

True, this stick is compatible with other PS3 fighting games. But as of know, none of the PS3 sticks will work on any PS2 games. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

That is not good. I was hoping to be able to use it with Guilty Gear X2.

Ahh, I should have clarified that more... but being as that I don't have a PS3, I thought for whatever reason there was a Guilty Gear game for it :p

    total clarification:

ps3 sticks work for ps3 and games you play on it regardless of format (ps2 or ps3).

ps2 sticks work for ps2 and games you play on it (which are only ps2 games and/or burned ps2 games).

the reason why ps2 sticks don't work with the ps3, even IF you have a usb adapter to read a ps2 stick FOR the ps3, is because controllers REQUIRE an analog button on the ps3 (which is something ps2 sticks lack).

EDIT: here's a thread that discusses a different method that i was unfamiliar with that, he states, allows ps2 sticks to work on the ps3...

I'm having the opposite problem. I never had a problem executing Basara on the ps3 pad, but I just got a VSHG and can't seem to get the input right. I know what the problem is; I can't seem to hit the diagonal inputs. It may just be that I need to get used to using a stick, but all attacks that require a diagonal input are harder for me now I always end up hitting: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif, or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif instead. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Chimera, when you are practicing the Basara, what are you finding you do the most, do you find you end up doing left/right more or up/down more?

I've been practicing more today and now I can do it about 70% of the time. What's happening is when I try to input /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif it comes out either /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif. I was having the same problem with his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I think the problem stems from: 1) Never having played VF with a stick and 2) Never having used a stick with a square gate.
