Latest ranking from Arcadia Magazine (arcadiamagazine.com). Issue came out on Saturday with quite a bit of Tekken 6, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and KOFXII stuff... Virtua Fighter 5R gets fucking regulated to the black and white pages, haha, what a sad, sad story. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif For the VF5R section they have a listing of all the qualifers for Kakutou Shinseki 5... but don't mention WHEN the qualifers actually happen. There are some character strats but it's only for Pai, Aoi, Jean, Taka, Sarah, Akira, Jacky and Kage. I didn't look at the other sections, but the Taka section is painfully old. We're talking like, first week of release old.

Man, VF used to dominate in Japan. Now Tekken is? WTF!!! Now don't get me wrong, I like Tekken, but what are they thinking about liking it more than VF?

Well... in February the VF machines were pretty deserted, compared to T6. It's not getting any better now, Tekken and SF4 seems to be what everyone's playing at the moment, as far as fighting games are concerned. Heck, the arcade closest to me doesn't even *have* a VF machine... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/tired.gif

VF5R seems to be pretty much the only fighting game here that I don't have to worry some utterly alien creature in human guise would come and beat the living snot out of your 100-yen coin when you're just trying to figure out combinations... Guess that's the plus side.

    I'm sad about VF5 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

Tekken 6 is raping gundam for whole year since it's release and T6:BR is still not out in Japan...

It's a very sad day when people in Japan are liking Tekken more than they are Virtua Fighter. What is so appealing about Tekken 6 that is making a lot of the Japanese players flock to it?

I know this is a place where people like to hate the game and all, but pushing buttons in Tekken is fun.

    It just is.

No one is hating on the game. I personally like Tekken. I've been playing Tekken for years now. But seeing as how most Japanese players used to play more VF than Tekken, I'm just wondering why all of a sudden that's changed beginning with DR?

Thanks for translating the rankings Reno. Do you perchance know the basis for the scorings as well?

Its good to see Tekken being more popular than Gundam, I thought that Gundam was never gonna go down from first place.

I dont think theres any reason to panic about VF you guys /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif .

Yeah, I'm pretty confident that Virtua Fighter is safe.

Tekken has better support from Namco. It has a good console fan base, and as much as Sega wants to rationalize it, a large console fan base is fucking GOOD to have. Namco also holds a lot more campaigns and specials via Tekken.net than VF.net does which probably keeps more people interested.

As stupid as this sounds, the fact that Namco makes it easier to gain more items probably does a bit for the game too. I think Sega makes it just a bit too overly complex to gain items, whereas (afaik) in Tekken 6 you just need to play and earn gold. There's no earning gold for base items, then collecting orbs for unlockable items, then buying colors with the orbs and all that stuff. The way Sega handled the distribution of VF5 and 5R probably left a bad taste in the mouths of arcade operators too I guess.

    So yeah... long story short:
    - Better support for players
    - Better support for arcade operators

Ouch. Looks like Sega has got their work cut out for them.

Yeah. It kind of paints a not-so-pretty picture for the future.

I have faith that VF5R will come back, though.

What is also concerning is there has been no mention of a VF5R Mook yet, and Blazblue mook is meant to be releasing in Jan09. Could it be that arcadia is going to skip this one completely? (Note, I only have the second latest arcadia, latest one is coming in the mail so I stand to be corrected).

Nah, there's no 5R mook going on sale any time soon, I checked Arcadia as soon as I got it last month.

New arcadia, no mention of new mooks? I get the feeling either arcadia is starting to only do them for guaranteed to sell games, or that it's just taking so long to do them it's impossible to get them out on time. Updates of arcade versions doesn't help either I'm sure.

I believe there is a message in the latest arcadia stating that they are unlikely to be doing their various spin offs now, such as mooks, Tougeki Tamashiis and the card game things. They will try to put that information into their main magazine (unlikely to happen but anyway).
