Does this mean that our existing USB/PS2-PS3 converters will now be lag free!? I have a JC-PS201 which supposedly has some slight lag issues. The other is a "PEGA" (PS2-PS3) converter, which I got off ebay.

Can you play VF5 with the ps1 pad then, i'd figure this would be easier than playing wit ha ps3 pad because the buttons weren't analogue.

So it should be easier to do moves like Akiras /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (release /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif after one frame) right?

    Another question,

how does the PS3 update the firmware. Is it automatic, or do you need an internet connection? Or is there another way it must be updated. When I booted up my PS3 after reading this, I was not prompted to upgrade like I was when I first got the PS3 back in March. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

    settings -> system update.

With internet connection to PS3 its simple.
Although I think it might be possible to move the patch to PS3 via USB-memorystick or something, but I dont know where would you download it then.

That's what I did, went to system update in the settings menu and wasn't able to do anything without an internet connection. I don't have a router yet, because there isn't any games I wish to play online thus far. Is there another way to get the firmware update, anyone??

You can also do the firmware upgrade by going to the official sony playstation website. Go to the playstation 3 section and look for it. You can downloaded via a flash drive or thumb drive, or memory stick or any other flash memorty card. It works the same, in fact, once it's on the flash drive, it's a bit quicker than the internet.

Hi, not all ps1/2 controllers work, only the original one. I tried some other brand controller & it didn't work with two different USB adapters!

I just got a logic 3 ps2 -> ps3 converter and it seems to work fine with my modded xarcade/sanwa, haven't upgraded the firmware yet but like one guy said in another thread I've no way of actually measuring lag with any degree of accuracy. Even though there doesn't seem to be any.

Cool, finally a useful update. Or at least, somewhat useful.

I ran some tests. I dont have an "official" PS1/2 > 3 adapter but I do have a few standard USB adapters.

Tests with the Super Dual Box (original version, no LED indicator)
-Dual Shock 2 > Compatible with PS2 games & PS3 games (so long as analog is activated).
-Tekken 5 RAP like stick > Compatible with PS2 games and buttons work on PS3 games.
-Charcoal Namco Stick > Same compatibility as the T5 stick.

So in short, controllers based off the Dual Shock (1 or 2) seem to have complete compatibility (minus the PS button). Controllers based on PSone design before analog have button compatibility, but mostly work only with PS1/2 software.

The only problem is, without being able to bring up the PS button menu with the adapted controllers, it makes it a pain to assign them to a port. Gotta play musical controllers until you get it set in socket one or two.

Oh, I also tested a Super Dual box knockoff (darker blue, has LED indicator on it). It didn't work with anything. And also note, only the player one slot on the Super Dual Box works. Any second controller connected is ignored.

Now if only they would work on upscaling old software. To see VF4 Evo in razor sharp clarity outside the arcade would be awesome. And I still dont know if the bluetooth desync issue is still present, havent played long enough yet to tell. Sadly I hear its still there.

    Other tests:
-HORI Fighting Stick 3 still seems incompatible with ALL PS1/2 software.

What USB adapter are you using? I can only get my T5 stick's buttons working in PS3 games.

I have two Elecom 201s, if you want to get some, buy from Stridajin from Tekken Zaibatsu.

I'm also using Elecom 201 (with a MAS). Has anyone confirmed whether or not the lag is completely gone with this new firmware upgrade?

throwmasta, simple one . go to the playstation.com then your local page yours being the US page, and theres the updates link listed on the page half way down on the right, go to it then you save it to your memory card SD etc what ever you use and then put in your PS3.
Then where you have your file stored go to memory and click the file. itll then perform the update.

I havent brought any PSP games recently and to use remote play i needed the most recent update of PSP firmware to 3.40 and thats how i found the updates.
