I recently downloaded a few movies from Akira from this site, excellent stuff by the way!!!
What came to my attention though was that all those pro's from Japan hardly ever did Akira's SPoD or even his DLC...
Now I saw that most guys played 6000 to 10000 matches, so they don't lack in experience.
Then I began to wonder if this move is so hard to fit in a fight or is it so easy to counter when blocked or what is it actually? I just started playing Akira so I'm the one lacking a lot of experience. Any answers....?

hey, u know what, there is no need to use the SPoD or the DLC to win in your game. i have seen ppl win with the most basic attacks. the double palm and singlepalm-dashingelbow are very popular from what i have seen. in my opinion, the float attacks in combination with other strong moves gets the job done.
i know i am not one of those guys with 10000 wins, but i use [P][K], [P], [3][K], and some other basic moves to baffle my opponents. also, using half or 2/3 combos can frustrate your enemies (eg the [3][G][P][K] or the [3][G][K]+[6][P]+[2]or[8]). they will expect you to finish the entire attack and keep blocking. you can use this to your advantage to make your move.
using a variety of attacks will usually help you win tough battles. i play against my friend all the time, and since he is no AI, he tends to change his strategy if his previous strategy is unseccessful. um, i'm gonna stop cuz i think i went off the topic just a bit...

Well, obviously a pro isn't going to have problems busting out ANY of Akira's moves, so no, it's not that the move is too difficult. Hell, a lot of ppl here can bust it out on reaction.

I'd regard the SPoD as a big risk / big reward move.
It's risky in that it's throw counterable if blocked.
Big reward comes in the 67 pts of damage (76 on Mc) that it does, and the fact that it's not interruptable if the first hit connects. Plus, it looks way cool, doesn't it?

I'm nowhere near pro, but I'd imagine that at that level you're not going to bust a SPoD out of nowhere since a whiffed or SPoD is trouble.
So you're going to need to set it up, for instance after a parry or wall stagger, where it is more or less guaranteed to hit.
Maybe in the matches you saw, no opportunity presented itself...

I noticed you said a few...

If you watch Ohsu or Homestay Akira you'll see how good it is used when in the hands of a good player. Its great after backstaggers ( such as [3][K] after opponent TRs ) and is a good anti-throw move like I've already said somewhere else. The start up is slow but its half circular meaning your opponent has to dodge to your front to avoid it ( to back and you'll nail them ). It works well Vs crouchers too and also to punish whiffed throws or after guard breaks or sabakis. Its not essential and neither is DLC but check posts and threads before you make up new ones. Lots of stuff about SPoD, DLC etc has already been covered. When you say pros from Japan have you any idea that they are pros are you just assuming they are? Seriously though theres soooo much written about Akira on this site that you just need to look a bit and do lots of reading and practice.

    If in doubt check here:

and an awful lot of your queries will have already been answered.

SPoD is -15 on block so most characters will have a quaranteed 40+point counterattack(ie akira's b,f+P... jacky's d/f+P,P,P, pounce etc are all around 60 points)...so throwing is a waste in my opinion.
