Hi, I have been playing fighting games for a while, and I've been playing super smash brothers melee for a long time, and I've decided to look into virtua fighter as a means of winning money and earning endorsements. If any of you have played super smash brothers melee, there are advanced techniques that are almost required to be successful in high levels of play. Some things Nintendo didn't even intend to put in the game, like Wavedashing, super wavedashing, chaingrabbing etc. I was wondering if there were any techniques like this in VF5, and which are the most important?

    throw escapes

dashes used for evading(can go deep into this..but dont wanna)

Can't you win a lot more money playing SSBM than VF cause it's in the MLG?

For those of you who do not know, SephirothKen is one of most famous Smash players in the world, and is still considered by many to be the best Smash player of all time. It's great to see players from other fighting game communities showing interest.

SephirothKen: Virtua Fighter's advanced techniques are mastering it's very strong option select defenses that make up it's overall system.

A wise investment would be to purchase the previous version Virtua Fighter 4: EVOLUTION. You should be able to find a copy for somewhere around $5 if you look well. That game has an intensive training mode built into that teaches you much about Virtua Fighters system. Most of it is still applicable to Virtua Fighter 5.

The General Advanced tactics used in VF are:
    Fuzzy Guarding
    Multiple Throw Escapes
Evading Throw Escape (also further, Multiple Evading Throw Escapes)
Throw Escape Guard (also further, Multiple Throw Escape Guard)
Adding the above together gives you Evading Throw Escape Guard (known as ETEG and you can also buffer multiple escapes like before)
ECD (Evade Crouch Dashn also can be done with Back Crouch Dash)
ED (Evade Dash or done Evade Back Dash)

Virtua Fighter is a 3D fighter so do not expect it to play like SSBM. Alot of the advanced tactics revolve around using evade or 3D movement to deal with things rather than jumping which is prefered in 2D games like SSBM and SF.

Also new in Virtua Fighter 5 is Offensive Move and Defensive Move (formerly Evade Attack).

OM is used when at advantage to create a high damage stagger, or used to generally move around the ring for positioning while attacking at the same time.

DM is used when at disadvantage to quickly counter attack an opponents attack, think of it as rolling past a fsmash then attacking in SSBM. It can also be used by certain characters as an option select to beat throws and attacks.

If your better than someone why not MM them? You win money and it forces the other player to play their hardest. If your trying to make a living off of videogames, this is an effective strategy.

Honestly, I think even for someone naturally gifted to video games-if you havent played vf before then it is going to take some time to get better than the vets on this site. Money matching is a risky business for vf as even an amazing player can get taken out with some dry cheesy crap or get unlucky. There are some games that Im confident in betting on and vf isnt one of them. Anyway, good luck with it and I hope you enjoy learning it.

I make a living off videogames, and playing for money ain't an effective strategy for me. Just as well I know it, otherwise Rayne would be buying a house by now /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I have a stance of not playing $$$ matches (except "for fun" with friends) because I feel there's something to be questioned about someone unable to play hard (and well) unless there's $$$ on the line.

And not just that, but I also feel that any given player really has their best matches during casual play instead of tourney or MM play . . . . since it is only during those "meaningless" (lol) casuals that a player is willing to experiment with new and/or risky strats. When a match is "serious", players generally limit themselves to what they "know" and experiment very little.

There, of course, are exceptions to this from time to time . . . . like when a learning (or "underdog") player faces a VF vet, **charges power for 7 episodes**, and takes his level of play to the next level (W, L, or D)!

Real problem is that because competition is the key to becoming good it would be impossible to get skills under the radar. Unless it was a cultural passtime like pool.

Any game takes practice to get good at. I pride myself for being inventive, creative, and evolving the metagame of games I play to a much higher level. It will be a little difficult for me to catch up to everyone else, but once I do you'll notice how everyone starts copying my strategies and playstyles. It happens to me all too much. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
