Well my 3rd party 360 pad electronics are busted. Dono what happened but 2 buttons weren't working. Then yesterday the 2 worked again, but the other 2 working do not work. Also some buttons can't be pressed together like K+G nothing happenes. I gave up on searching the error. I think the the PCB is broken.

So I opened my orig. 360 controller and bam coal contacts
Does anyone know a good way to solder on coal contacts? Im currently searching for some kind of lacquer or some kind of adhesive but I havn't found anything so far.

coal contacts??? I don't think that's the proper english term for whatever you're talking about. You'll probably need to provide more information on this one.

  3. Do you mean that odd, matte coating on the contacts?
Scrape it gently away with a scalpel blade and then try soldering it.

Yes that black coating it consist of carbon/coal perhaps its called carbone contacs in english.

Hmm I scraped a bit off at the edge to see if there was any metal contacts under it, it was white so I think there aren't any under it. Have you done it and know for shure?

  5. Yeah, it's more than likely graphite, which is the stuff you find in pencils as that conducts and will protect the copper.

Yeah, I've done this, but many months ago. The copper doesn't run the entire length of the black, if I remember rightly and can only be found underneath the circular part where it connects to the track on the board.

Because there is only a tiny amount of copper to solder to, it's fairly fine work to connect it to a wire.
Beware also, because the track is very, very easily pulled away from the board without much effort. I actually managed to ruin a pad when making my custom stick because of this.

If you have the means, test the connection and secure the wire with a blob of hot glue to keep it secure. If you're unsure that the connection is good, then put the glue away from the contact, allowing you to re-solder for a better connection.

To be quite honest the Madcatz pad is much easier to work with if you're not to bothered about it being wired. The points you can solder to on that pad are much bigger.

Thx I'll stick with the mad catz pad then. ^-^ Don't want to ruin the MS pad.

  7. Not the greatest photo to illustrate the differences, but you can probably see how much bigger the contacts are on the Madcatz pad than the official one.

You'll have to excuse the messy wiring. It was my 1st project /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Interesting. I'm still having trouble finding specific info about those contacts, but I think you're talking about an electrode? And Broken_English... I think where you said track, the official term for what you meant is "trace".

I guess the name's irrelevent now that you know what's going on, good luck with the mod.
